My Experience in Lunenburg at New Voice Language Academy

IMG_0901

I clearly remember my moving day which started my Lunenburg life. I was really nervous. BUT It was actually too much worrying.

Alden picked me up to Halifax and his smile made me relax. I enjoyed talking with Alden and the view from the window. My worries were gone and it changed to hope.

Lunenburg is the best place for studying English and enjoying beautiful nature. I wanted to enjoy both. New Voice Language Academy helped me to make those two of my wishes true.
The main purpose of staying in Canada was improving my English, of course. New Voice has flexible English courses. Nicola and Paula know exciting English program. The most memorable lesson were Nicola’s pronunciation lesson and Paula’s useful English phrases.

I had strong accent. Nicola knows great ways to improve pronunciation. I could see my improvement when I go to another countries for traveling. They could catch what I said only once!! It was wonderful thing for me.

Paula’s useful phrases lesson was my request. I hesitated to talk to people who speaks in English because I was quite shy. I didn’t know how to keep conversations so her lessons really helped me. I learned many useful phrases and practiced many times. I saw the improvement when I visited to Vancouver to see my friend. My friend said “Your English had improved really.” I was very glad !!

The next amazing thing was enjoying nature. I went to the whale watching, Wolfville, Kayaking, Sailing, and (forget the name of huge park. I went there for hiking with Nicola and Ylva.)There are many activities!! I’d like to write whole things but it already getting long so I’ll choose most excited one. It was whale watching. The whale watching was absolutely amazing activity. They are cool huge animals!! I didn’t expect to see many whales. How wonderful experience it was.

During my life in Lunenburg, the nicest receptionist Erin supported me. She always stays at reception with cute smile. I’ve never seen her angry face and empty reception room. There is nothing worrying about.

Lunenburg is very beautiful town. There are colorful restaurants, cute churches and kind peoples. I love the atmosphere. There is perfect environment to study English and enjoy your life.
I’d love to visit again with my family.

Father Christmas Festival

ChihayaThis past weekend, our students had the opportunity to visit Mahone Bay, a small tourist town about 15 minutes from New Voice Language Academy. Mahone Bay is famous for its multitude of yearly festivals and a trip into town at this time of year is sure to get everyone in the holiday spirit! As the air turns crisp and the sun helps the frost covered ground sparkle, we couldn’t ask for a more beautiful festival and town to celebrate the holiday season in.

During the Father Christmas Festival, you will be surrounded by the magic of the holidays. With bright, twinkling lights and characters of Santa throughout the town, you are sure to feel like you are seeing everything through the eyes of a child. This was certainly the case for our student Chihaya.

GrinchChihaya is always up for experiencing everything new that comes her way during her stay in Nova Scotia. She enjoyed herself during her visit to Mahone Bay and was able to see many traditional decorations, traditions, and even the Grinch (who was being as pesky as always, stealing trees from the Christmas tree lot!)

There is something so endearing about watching sometime take part in a culture that is new and exciting to them. It is one of the most rewarding things about working here at New Voice – meeting students who not only enroll at the school to learn English, but who are keen to take part in all aspects of Canadian culture. The South Shore of Nova Scotia is the perfect area to experience this!

photo 32 (small)All in all we had a wonderful weekend visiting Mahone Bay and we look forward to spending the holidays with our students! Keep in mind, Mahone Bay and the South Shore area have festivals all year round, so no matter what time of year you are here you will be able to take part in something just as exciting and beautiful as the Father Christmas Festival! We look forward to seeing you then!

New Partnerships with Acadia University and Sacred Heart School of Halifax

New Voice Language Academy is proud to announce our newest partners:

Acadia Logo (1)

Acadia University

Acadia University was ranked the #2 University in Canada (for Undergraduate Programs) by McLean’s magazine in 2014. The university offers more than 200 degree combinations as well as 2,864 courses spread throughout the faculties of Arts, Pure & Applied Science, and Professional Studies. At Acadia, the faculty to student ratio is 1:15, which lends itself to small class sizes with their countless award-winning professors.

Acadia has a large international student community, with over 50 countries represented throughout their student body. Professors use a hands-on approach which, combined with a technology rich environment and curriculum, gives students a competitive advantage. Students get the best of both worlds in that they are provided with top-level classrooms, labs, and field facilities that are characteristic of a much larger university, while enjoying the comfort of a smaller, quaint university town that is rich with culture and beautiful scenery. The community of Wolfville, Nova Scotia is known for its perfect balance of urban and rural living, giving students the opportunity to experience Canadian living in a better-rounded environment. For more information on the programs at Acadia, you may visit their website at http://www2.acadiau.ca

Sacred Heart School of Halifax

Sacred Heart School of Halifax is a private school located in our province’s capital city of Halifax. Hosting students from Primary to Grade 12, Scared Heart boasts great teachers as well as excellent preparation for university (and likely a scholarship to get there)! Students who attend Sacred Heart have a broad worldview, and want experience in building community, a spiritual foundation, and a thirst for ongoing personal growth spurred by proactively facing challenges in order to make a positive difference in our world.

Sacred Heart Elementary School, Sacred Heart High School, and Fountain Academy of the Sacred Heart are all pleased to accept applications from international students. Currently, they are hosting students from China, Mexico, Australia, Russia, Japan, and Korea. Students may attend NVLA before their time at Sacred Heart, or even during the summers when they do not have other classes. For more information on what Sacred Heart has to offer, you may visit their website at http://www.shsh.ca.

Tutoring

Tutoring

There once was a student who was scared of his class,
He loved every subject, but this one was math.
“Math is so scary!” the boy would declare,
“The problems make me pull out all of my hair!”

Then one day he saw a fun poster at school.
That read ‘Tutoring help.’  “Well that might be cool!”
So he asked for his parents to give New Voice a call,
The process was easy! It wasn’t hard at all!

The boy started his sessions and couldn’t believe
How these one-on-one lessons really gave him relief!
His confidence rose as he solved problems so fast
“My math issues are gone! They’re all in my past!”

The teachers at New Voice were so proud of the boy,
His grades were improving, it brought them such joy!
The boy went on to ace all of his tests,
“Hey New Voice!” he said, “You all are the best!”

New Voice receives Entrepreneurial Award

NVLA team at Business Excellence Awards

Last night We were honoured to receive the Entrepreneur of the Year Award.

If someone had told me that one day I would receive an Entrepreneur of the Year Award I would have probably laughed at them.   Ha! No way!  I knew how hard my self-employed parents worked.  Nope, not me, I was going to work 9-5, evenings and weekends off, regular vacations and a steady pay cheque. –

…. And I stood there, holding that award, never having worked harder in my life! 9-5 is a distant dream and the last time I took a weekend off I slept just to catch up. BUT I also stood there, never having had more fun.  And I looked around the room and saw a lot of nodding heads. Fellow business entrepreneurs who choose this life and its challenges because they love it.  Sure we work hard, but it is so incredibly rewarding to build something from scratch and to build it around the very thing we love to do.

So I held that award for my parents and thanked them for instilling in me a strong work ethic and, even more importantly, for having taught me to have a vision!

But while I held it for my parents I share it with an incredible team.  A team of dedicated teachers and the management team Mandy Hynes and Amrita Hazra who share our vision and do whatever needs to be done to realize it.  I shared it also with my husband Alden with whom I started New Voice back in 2010.  His charisma, marketing genius and big heart make New Voice, and my life, better.  This award is just as much theirs as it is mine.

NVLA team with award

Finally I dedicated the entrepreneurial award to, not only my fellow nominees Liz Carter of The Java Bead and Shelah Allan of Lunenburg Walking Tours whose company I was honoured to be nominated in, but to all small business entrepreneurs of Nova Scotia because it is their shoulders that Nova Scotia’s economy rests on!

Visit here to see all recipients of all categories of the Business Excellence Awards.
