Ark Survival Evolved: How To Tame A Shadowmane

Genesis Part 2 is the newest DLC released for Ark: Survival Evolved and with it came several new creatures, including the Shadowmane. You can tame it, but many players are at a loss of how to go about doing this. Luckily, it is easy in theory, although it does take a bit of patience if you want to be successful.

RELATED: Ark Survival Evolved: The Most Important Character Stats To Upgrade, Ranked

These tips and tricks will have you taming this beast in no time, so you can have a predator on your side. It might be one of the nonviolent tames, but nonetheless, it still takes some practice if you want a Shadowmane in Ark: Survival Evolved.

How To Tame The Shadowmane

The Shadowmane is feline in nature, and it has a few special abilities that make it an exceptional hunter. They can travel alone or in groups of three or more, and it stalks its prey by going invisible. It will also teleport after you if you try to run from it, which is why stealth is so important when attempting this tame if you don't want to use cheat codes.

Here are the steps to taming a Shadowmane:

  • Collect Fish in Fish Baskets
  • Find a Sleeping Shadowmane
  • Feed The Shadowmane A Fish Basket
  • Follow The Shadowmane And Repeat

Collect Fish In Fish Baskets

The first step is to gather a lot of fish baskets with fish inside of them. The fish must be greater than 0.5x weight in order to tame the Shadowmane, but some have found that bigger fish speed up the process.

You can catch them simply by placing a bunch of fish baskets along the riverbed in areas that are heavily populated with fish. The type of fish does not matter as long as its weight is up to par.

Find A Sleeping Shadowmane

The Shadowmane can only be tamed while it is sleeping, but first, you must find where this creature resides. They can be found on the Rockwell side of the map, but they are most plentiful in the southern region.

This species also sleeps during the day, so this is the best time to attempt this feat and it makes them an easier tame than a Noglin. However, they only stay asleep for 20 seconds to one minute so keep this in mind when making your approach.

Feed The Shadowmane A Fish Basket

Once you have located a sleeping Shadowmane, you need to crouch and slowly approach it from behind. It is best if you use Ghillie Armor as this will reduce your chance of detection and moving toward it from the front will wake it up.

RELATED: Ark Survival Evolved: How To Build The Ultimate Base

After you have moved close enough to it a prompt will appear that will allow you to feed it a fish basket.

Follow The Shadowmane And Repeat

The Shadowmane will go invisible after you feed it a fish basket, and you must follow it to its next location. However, make sure to keep your distance until it is asleep once more so you don't become its next target.

You will need to keep repeating the process of feeding it fish baskets and chasing it until it has been fully tamed, and you won't need mutagen to do so. Luckily, once you have started taming it a tracker will appear on your screen that will make it easy for you to follow it and see your progress.

Ark Pelagornis

The somewhat skittish fish eater, Pelagornis Mlocaenus was first seen in the early Miocene epoch.

A large water bird that resembles a giant seagull that is typically seen floating in the water bobbing for fish may be in either shallow or deep waters.

It is typically found near coast lines or beaches paddling, to rest its wings or searching for its next meal.

By far the Pelagornis is relatively calm, but easily spooked by any aggression towards it, making it flee from the area.

The ability to traverse air, sea and land makes it a versatile mount andonce tamed it gains a 36.5% speed increase which makes it one of the fastest flyers around.

Dossier Summary

The much larger ancestor of coastal waterbirds, the Pelagornis shares many traits with its modern brethren often spends most of its time in the water catching its fill of fish.

Rarely seen in the mainland, this creature is usually found along the coastlines and beaches.

Perhaps due to its young existence it is comfortable being out in  the open areas of beaches weary but not bothered by the predators since it can easily get away.

When the pelagornis is domesticated it provides the tribe a versatile means to explore what the terrain has to offer.

Water Landing

Usually flying creatures stay away from the water but the Pelagornis has the unique ability to land in the water to save energy and act as a speedy watercraft.

The Pelagornis is not a mount for fighting any battle, but for tribe scouts it can utilize its ability to quickly skim the water and fly at quick speeds if needed for scouting runs.

Organic Polymer Farmer

The Pelagornis can farm organic polymer from Kairuku in the tundra areas. (baby Kairuku produce more organic polymer)

KO Hit Collector

When it kills a creature it can collect instantly unlike other creatures that need to attack a corpse to harvest it. (it cannot gather prime meat)

 Fish Killer

The Pelagornis has attack bonuses against small fish, making it an efficient fish gatherer for other piscivore creatures in the tribe.

Fishing Partner

The Pelagornis has a unique ability to be a fishing platform, a human can equip a fishing rod while mounted on the Pelagornis.

How to Tame Pelagornis?

Bolas can prevent the Pelagornis from fleeing which makes capturing it easier as being a non combative creature, it will flee instead of fighting off its attackers.

The difficult part of taming the pelagornis is that, it usually stays on the water or flies over the water and knocking it out in those areas may result in it drowning and eventually lead to its death.

  • 125 × Fiber
  • 75 × Chitin/Keratin

Being a sort of  waterfowl, the Pelagornis will lay an egg to be cared for after breeding and its coloration appears as light blue with light brown spots.

Resources Harvested From Pelagornis Body

Pelagornis can be found around coastal zones and either swimming in or flying above the water.

  • The Island
  • The Center
  • Ragnarok
  • Valguero

Pelagornis Spawn Location:

The following are spawn maps where the Pelagornis can be found

The Island:

The Center:

Although the Pelagornis may not be the strongest or fastest flyer but it’s pretty much useful and capable of being used in several situations with the added bonus of not dismounting its rider when coming in contact with the water.

For those who like to fish but don’t want the hassle of setting up a fishing area the Pelagornis is the mount for you as you can fish wherever you want, whenever you want.

Being a great fish hunter, the Pelagornis can make sure that both the carnivores and piscivores are well fed as it can collect large amounts of fish meat.

When it comes to maneuverability, the Pelagornis has a few tricks up its sleeve as it can easily shift from land, air and water giving it ways to lose enemies such as leading enemy flyers near the surface of the water, making the chances of them getting dismounted high while it can fly away safely.

How To Tame Shadowmane In Ark Genesis Part 2 DLC

Ark: Genesis Part 2 will be the final expansion for Ark: Survival Evolved, with many players chomping at the bit for Ark 2 featuring Vin Diesel, though there’s still plenty of hunting and material gathering involved.

While the Ark games forged its identity by being a survival game where you shoot dinosaurs, updates that have made it to the base game and Ark: Genesis Part 2 allow players to tame dinosaurs, having them join you.

How To Tame Shadowmane In Ark Genesis Part 2 DLC

One dinosaur fans have been looking to tame is the Shadowmane, a carnivore that can be a bit tough to fight, though players will be happy to know that they won’t have to choose violence to win it over.

Believe it or not, the meat-eating Shadowmane can be tamed in a rather peaceful method so players need to put down their trigger finger for a minute so they can bring this good boy or girl to their base.

In order to recruit the Shadowmane in Ark: Genesis part 2, make sure to have a full Fish Basket with any fish that is 0.5 weight or more.

After having enough fish, make sure to approach the Shadowmane during the middle of the day since that’s when they start resting.

When you’ve managed to track a resting Shadowmane down, quietly approach the dinosaur, make sure the Fish Basket is in the last slot of your hotbar, and feed it.

Upon eating a fish, the Shadowmane will teleport so track it down and repeat the process a few more times and it will eventually join you.

Ark: Genesis Part 2 is now available on the PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and PC.

The Fish Basket is a structure in the AberrationDLC of ARK: Survival Evolved. It can be used as a trap to capture and tame smaller aquatic creatures.

The Fish Basket can be placed anywhere on the ground, both above and under water.

To capture aquatic creatures, the Fish Basket has to be placed near them on the ground. The trap will be initializing the capture for a few seconds. When it's ready, you can capture the desired creature by quickly pressing while looking at the Fish Basket.

Doing so will capture the creature and you will obtain a Filled Fish Basket, which spoils after 40 minutes but can be replenished by standing inside the water source. Placing the Filled Fish Basket down will release the captured creature. Some of the creatures that can be caught in the trap will be tamed upon release. Unlike most tameable creatures, their level is fixed from their spawn level, and as such, they can not obtain any experience.

Fish Baskets can also capture already tamed creatures, which will allow them to gain experience and it is also useful for carrying them to a different body of water.

Normal untameable fishes can be fed to Shadowmane in the Genesis Ship as food for taming.

The following creatures can be tamed with the trap:

* = May appear to eat Berries, but the food bar will not change, making it difficult to predict. It will eventually starve to death despite appearing to be full.

The following creatures are considered a one-time use. Once they have latched themselves onto someone or something, they disappear forever from the tame limit of the tribe:

In addition to the above few, the following tamed creatures can be trapped inside the trap for transportation:

  • Caged fish can be safely carried anywhere, but releasing them outside of water will instantly kill them.
  • The Fish Basket can be used to reset breed timer on Anglerfish, Manta and Ichthyosaurus.
  • The Fish Basket (Aberration) is treated as a thatch structure and can be damaged by anything except non-explosive ranged attacks.

275.0Fish Basket is added to the game.

ARK Genesis 2 | How to tame Shadowmanes

Shadowmanes are a new type of creature introduced in the Genesis: Part 2, the final piece of DLC for ARK: Survival Evolved.

To see this content please enable targeting cookies.

Not only are these majestic dinosaurs rad as hell to look at, but when tamed they're incredibly useful as transport and when taking on offensive roles in combat.

How to tame a Shadowmane in ARK Genesis 2

There is a unique, non-violent method you need to use when taming Shadowmanes.

The main item you need in order to bring a Shadowmane on-side is simply a Fish Basket containing any fish weighing 0.5 or more, equipped to the last slot of your hotbar. Ideally you'll have several of this item, as taming will take a few repetitions.

(Optional extras include a set of Ghillie Armour to lower the Shadowmane's chances of detecting you, and some Bug Repellant to prevent insects from interfering with your attempt. But the only thing you need is the Fish Basket.)

Despite the friendly nature of your approach, Shadowmanes are aggressive creatures, so it's important to approach in the middle of the day, when the creature is asleep.

Approach from the side or rear and, if you do wake it up by accident, just run away and try again once it's settled down. It's also recommended approaching a lone Shadowmane, as once aggroed they will wake up any members of their pack who are nearby.

Feeding the sleeping Shadowmane — yes, it should be able to eat in its sleep — will cause it to become invisible and wander off elsewhere. Track it with the Taming tracker but be sure to hang back, as you don't want to be within aggroing distance when it breaks stealth and finds a new spot to settle down in.

Waking a sleeping Shadowmane without successfully feeding it will cause all taming progress to reset. However, being attacked by the Shadowmane when it's already awake won't reset your progress.
