"You two are still thinking before you move rather than just moving. I'm afraid this habit is especially strong with you, Vegeta. This overthinking is limiting your fighting speed. Messages can only travel through your nervous system so fast. When you rely on thoughts for physical action, you lose precious fighting time. (...) Your end goal should be to master the ability to have each part of your body move independently of the other parts. But I admit this is exceedingly difficult; In fact, not even Lord Beerus has mastered it, and he's a god."

Alternate names

Mastery of Self-Movement

Autonomous Ultra Instinct
Absolute Impulse

Autonomous Ultra Instinct (の,Migatte no Goku'i, lit. "The Secret of the Self-centered") is a very rare and highly advanced mental state. It is notorious among the gods for being exceptionally difficult to master, even for them.[1]

This ability can only truly be used once the transformation that enables one to utilize it is achieved,[1] this transformation must then go on to be completed and further refined. It is, however, possible to utilize this ability, or its principles, to a limited degree without the transformations.

Autonomous Ultra Instinct is considered the "absolute peak" for those who master the martial arts. It effectively allows for each and every part of the users body to think and move independently of all the other parts, as opposed to how a person normally has to think about their movements beforehand and let the command travel from the brain and through the nervous system. A sequence which wastes precious fighting time, as command signals only travel through the nerves so fast.

With each part of the body able to think and act on its own, the user of this technique is able to automatically react to any situation or threat with the perfect move with perfect timing. They don’t even need to acknowledge the threat; meaning the user can still fight effectively, even if they are focusing on something else.

Limitations and Drawbacks

While Ultra Instinct seems to make the user virtually unbeatable, it is not an absolute guarantee against all danger, as shown by Whis being oblivious to stepping on poop or (in the anime) when Goku managed to bite Whis to escape his hold, possibly because they were not of genuine danger to his being as they were such obscure threats. In addition, it is also seen that someone with colossal raw power can bypass the instantaneous defense impulse of Ultra Instinct. In fact, if users of the ability face each other and one of them has a refinement of the Ultra Instinct superior to the other, they will have an advantage and will be able to bypass the instant defense without inconvenience. While using the ability may make the user's vital points extremely difficult to target, it is still possible for an immensely-focused attack to break through if the user is not careful, as demonstrated by Granolah's Evolved Right Eye.

In the anime, since Ultra Instinct is a technique of the Gods, for mortals without sufficient divine training, there is one major risk of using Ultra Instinct. Similar to the reckless over-usage of Kaio-ken, the user can only sustain the sheer power of the ability for only a minute or so before their body breaks down from pushing itself so far beyond ones natural limits. Once this time limit is reached, blood will rupture from the user's body and dark ki electrical shocks will cause them severe pain and eventually force them into unconsciousness. In more severe cases, Whis noted it could potentially kill the user. In the manga, there is no such risk, as a mortal user will only be worn out after using the Ultra Instinct for some time. In any case, both in anime and manga, once the mortal has the proper training and is able to access the ability at will, they will no longer be at risk of suffering the adverse effects. According to Whis, however, even once a mortal has mastered the form, there is still a time limit on the form. This was shown during Goku's battle with Granolah, as though he had the edge due to his usage of his Perfected Ultra Instinct form, the accuracy of it dropped during the course of the fight, till Granolah could once again strike him.

The ability requires the user to have extreme and refined self-control over themself, something that very few warriors (even those considered geniuses), naturally have. For that reason, Ultra Instinct is extremely difficult to master, even by the standards of deities. In order to learn to use it, there appear to be three steps, the last one more challenging than the others:

  1. The user must clear their mind completely and abandon any distraction or thought that would disrupt the focus of their body so that it concentrates only on the current struggle through natural reaction (or instinct).
  2. The user needs to break their "self-limitation shell" in an extreme way in order to explore their most intimate hidden potential. In the anime, Whis points out that for this to happen, it is necessary for the user to experience a "trigger" of some kind, such as resisting an exceptionally strong attack (anime), or culminating the compression of multiple martial arts teachings (manga).
  3. The user must combine the first two steps without losing complete clarity and control of their emotions.

Completion of the final step is the most difficult to achieve, and until it is fully understood, Ultra Instinct, even if it is accessed, will remain incomplete and will not reach its full potential. In this regard, according to Whis, while dodging and moving is easy to master, attacking while in Ultra Instinct is far more difficult to learn, as fighters are inclined to think about their attacks before making them and constantly search for weaknesses in their opponents to exploit. Sending attack commands to the muscles sends contradictory signals to the muscles that are moving on their own, thus slowing the user down and weakening their attack capabilities while performing the move.

Although somewhat unorthodox, the entire Ultra Instinct learning process can be circumvented simply by copying/absorbing a user who has already mastered the ability. However, this method is not advisable; the risks of using Ultra Instinct without divine training are even greater, as the user's body is not be able to handle the overwhelming power of the ability and will suffer negative effects that will inevitably end up causing the death of the user. This is seen when Moro gained Ultra Instinct by copying Merus prior to his erasure, due to not undergoing the proper training to utilize these abilities, his body began to mutate once Goku was able to land hits on him.

Impossibility of learning

Due to the demand for extreme self-control and clarity, both in the mind and in terms of their emotions to learn Ultra Instinct, fighters of an analytical and moody nature are unable to learn the ability because of their tendency to think about their attacks and get carried away by their emotions during a fight. This is seen in the anime where Whis claims that Vegeta could hardly learn the skill, given his fighting style.

Vegeta attempted to make use of Ultra Instinct - by folding clothes in the manga, and by trying to instinctually dodge Catopesra in the anime - however he failed , leading him in the manga to realize he was not suited for learning the technique, and opted for a different path. By extension, due to Beerus' comments, it is indicated that the Gods of Destruction are incapable of fully mastering Ultra Instinct, due to their inherent nature preventing them from achieving the emotional balance necessary to master the ability. In order to make up for it, they tend to practice a derivative technique that takes advantage of their more impulsive tendencies in battle, the Ultra Ego.

Levels of precision and accuracy

According to Whis, although it is said that those capable of achieving Perfected Ultra Instinct have reached the absolute peak, the ability is just the "initial path" to obtain peak combat efficiency. In fact, just like any technique, Ultra Instinct can be perfected by its users so that their precision using the ability becomes even more refined.[5] This refinement, in turn, is only achieved when the user who masters the ability is able to use it without activating its transformation state, which will prevent their body from being harmed by the stress that the prolonged use of Ultra Instinct causes.[8]

The lowest level of this ability is when one is only capable of using it's principles. After achieving the perfected state of the Ultra Instinct transformation, Goku's use of the ability is said to be the bare minimum of what Ultra Instinct is truly capable of, referred to as being "at the bottom of the ladder". It is noted by Moro that with the Ultra Instinct he copied from Merus, his abilities are equal to Goku's, later Whis is said to have far greater mastery over the ability than Merus, while the Grand Minister's use of Ultra Instinct is even greater than what Whis'.

Usage and Power

Via transformation

Main articles: Ultra Instinct Sign and Perfected Ultra InstinctAngels are naturally in the Perfected Ultra Instinct state and this ability is said to be their signature. Whis was the first person shown using this ability.

Whis often uses this ability against Goku and Vegeta during training, and reveals its existence at around the time of Frieza's revenge. During his demonstration, Whis was able to casually observe the blooming flowers while effortlessly dodging Goku and Vegeta's combined assaults.

During the Tournament of Power, Goku achieves a transformation known as Ultra Instinct Sign for the first time. In this form, Goku is capable of using incomplete Ultra Instinct. However, Goku could only subconsciously activate this form after enduring prolonged stress against a stronger opponent and can only maintain it for a brief period of time before collapsing in exhaustion; his thoughts will somehow start to take control of his motions when Goku switched from defense to offense, which makes attacking less adequate. In the anime, Whis commented that before Goku is capable of exerting the full potential of Ultra Instinct, he has to master it at the offensive level, by separating his body from his consciousness while attacking. Frieza also noted that Goku's body needs to withstand overwhelming physical stress as the cost of such a boost in power.

Once Goku fully focused his heart and soul into the Ultra Instinct Sign form, he managed to access the completed form that gives him complete mastery of Ultra Instinct. In this ultimate state of fighting, Goku was able to utilize both the defensive and offensive might of this ability.

Prior to the Galactic Patrol Prisoner Saga, Goku could not access Ultra Instinct on his own and it only activates when he is in the direst of situations. Goku achieves the ability to use Ultra Instinct Sign at will during his training with Merus, a trainee Angel who also possesses the Ultra Instinct ability. Later, Merus comments that Goku is one step away from having full mastery of the skill. Afterward, after seeing Merus' sacrifice and maintaining calmness, Goku achieved a new clarity of spirit that allowed him to perfectly and consciously access the complete Ultra Instinct state. Goku had the complete ability to change from Ultra Instinct to his base form after severely wounding Moro before immediately changing back after Moro attacked Goku despite Goku sparing the wizard and giving him a Senzu Bean.

After copying Merus' abilities and gaining Ultra Instinct, Moro was able to fight on par with Goku and match his speed even when Goku was also using the state. However, due to Moro's body barely having any experience with Ultra Instinct, his body mutated into a large bloated state, rendering the form useless for him at that point.

In Dragon Ball Super: Broly, Whis did not need to use this ability against Broly, simply using normal movements with no swiftness to dodge the Super Saiyan's assault.[9]

Grand Minister is an Ultra Instinct user of such a domain that he outperforms Whis in accuracy and, by extension, all of his children, thus making him the most powerful holder of the ability.[5]

In the anime, Goku shows the first signs of this ability when he first fought Beerus as a Super Saiyan 3, where he instinctively dodged Beerus before the destroyer even moved to attack, piquing Beerus' interest.

In the manga's Universe Survival Saga, during the Zeno Expo, Beerus uses Ultra Instinct against the other Gods of Destruction, enabling him to handle multiple Gods of Destruction simultaneously; however, he is eventually restrained by Mule due to not having yet perfected the ability.

Thanks to his many years of martial arts experience, Master Roshi became capable of utilizing a similar but not quite as advanced automatic dodging technique. He can instinctively anticipate the tactics and attack patterns of his foe (even while blindfolded), enabling him to seamlessly evade harm - causing Beerus to believe he was actually using Ultra Instinct itself. Such a feat made Whis declare that Master Roshi at the time was by far the closest mortal to understanding and mastering Ultra Instinct, even though he is unaware of it.

Master Roshi can only use this pseudo-form of Ultra Instinct when his heart is clear;[10] this makes the ability difficult for him to use due to his perverted nature. When Roshi utilized it against Miza, Iwaza and Kikaza, it was noted by Miza that Roshi had become stronger than before.

Roshi has used this power[10] on three occasions: during the Tournament of Power to defeat Kahseral, then against Jiren - where he was quickly overcome, and later once more against Miza, Iwaza and Kikaza - where he triumphed against the convicts until they merged. During the Tournament of Power, he also implied earlier in the tournament that he could use it to hold his own against the likes of Frost.[11]

In his mortal state, Merus utilizes Ultra Instinct to train Goku and to combat Moro on a few occasions, however, as he is not in his true Angel state he cannot use the ability to its full potency.

According to Whis, it is possible for Goku to use Ultra Instinct without needing to transform, thus it will free him of the stamina drain that is creating a time limit while using it with a transformation. After a period of time training with the angel, Goku is now able to access the ability even in his normal form,[12] though he needs to close his eyes to activate it outside of the full Ultra Instinct transformation. Vegeta notes during Goku's fight with Granolah that the Super Saiyan forms increase the accuracy of Ultra Instinct in battle, as demonstrated when Super Saiyan God Goku uses the technique to effortlessly slide through Granolah's energy volley.

While Master Roshi's usage of an Ultra Instinct-like ability is only talked about in the manga, Roshi performs a similar feat against the transformedGanos in the anime.

Video Game Appearances

In Dragon Ball Heroes, Ultra Instinct -Sign- appears as Ultra Instinct Sign Goku's Super Attack. In the fifth Big Bang Mission trailer for Super Dragon Ball Heroes, the Saiyan Hero is able to utilize this ability to dodge the God of Destruction Berserker's punches before counter attacking, dodge a rush attack from the God of Destruction Hero then counter attack him from behind, and sense the God of Destruction Elite preparing to attack allowing him to get behind her and interrupt her attack before she can finish shortly after achieving Ultra Instinct -Sign- form after losing an Energy Clash between SSGSS Saiyan Hero's Kamehameha and the God of Destruction Hero's Sphere of Destruction.

In Dokkan Battle, iterations of Goku (Ultra Instinct -Sign-) and Goku (Ultra Instinct), Whis and Vados have the ability represented by significantly high chances of evading the enemy's attacks. This holds especially true for two specific iterations of Goku (Ultra Instinct) and Whis, both of whom raise their defensive ability by astonishing amounts for every attack they evade.

In Xenoverse 2, Dodge appears as an ability for Ultra Instinct Goku. Additionally, Whis can use Dodge if attacked during a certain New Parallel Quest which acts as an in-game representation of his Ultra Instinct ability.

In Kakarot, Whis can use Ultra Instinct during training battles during which he automatically dodges every attack that should hit him.

The original Japanese term is a pun that cannot be translated neatly into English.

While the term gokui in Migatte no Gokui 身勝手の極意 can be translated as secret, quintessence or focus point, migatte usually means egoism or selfishness in Japanese. So without any contexts, Japanese people would understand this phrase as followed:

Japanese 身勝手 極意
Transliteration migatte no gokui
Literal translation self-centered linking particle

Translation the secret of the self-centered

But in the context of DBS and its world of martial artists, migatte must be understood in a more literal way:

Literal translation body to win/to surpass hand
Translation the body prevails over both hands

With the original meaning of self-centered, migatte must be understood with the body representing inner urges and the hands representing the interactions with people, thus politeness and good manners. But in the context of DBS, migatte must be re-interpreted as the inner reflexes of one's body taking over the deliberate movements of the hands.

Yet, by understanding what it's all about, most Japanese people would interpret migatte as being the contraction of the below phrase, fitting a modern Japanese view instead of the classical Chinese view of the above explanation:

Japanese 勝手 動く
Transliteration mi ga katte ni ugoku
Literal translation body subject particle one's own convenience adverbial particle to move
Translation the body moves on its own as it wants

So, the correct translation of Migatte no Gokui should be "the secret of the self-centered". This is obviously impractical to use as-is in an English adaptation of DBS. The official translation Ultra Instinct used in simulcasts still renders somewhat appropriately the original meaning by replacing the concept of an uncontrollable body with one's instincts.

  • This technique closely resembles the real-life martial art concept of Mushin (無心,lit. "Empty Mind"), a mental state that highly trained martial artists are said to be capable of entering during combat. It is essentially a moment where their body reacts without the need of having any specific intentions or plans in mind, having refined their instincts and intuition to a level where they can respond to any threat without the need for thought.

Dragon Ball Super: Everything to Know About Goku's New Form - Ultra Instinct

Over the years, Dragon Ball's star protagonist, Goku, has seen some wild transformations that propel his power far beyond the expected, usually accompanied by a slick new hairdo. Much to Vegeta's dismay, it seems that every time he or another character comes close to surpassing Goku in power, Goku experiences another awesome transformation that leaves everyone else in the dust.

Continuing the tradition in Dragon Ball Super, Goku's latest form is by far his most powerful to date, marked by silver eyes and blindingly white locks. As this new form diverges from the sequence of normal Super Saiyan transformations, fans naturally have questions. To that end, here's everything to know about Goku's Ultra Instinct form

RELATED: Dragon Ball Z: 10 Powers You Didn’t Know Goku Had

10 Goku Tapped Into It By Necessity, Not Will

Goku's method of activating Ultra Instinct is closely reminiscent of the way most Super Saiyan transformations happen, for example, Gohan's ascension to Super Saiyan 2 during the Cell Saga. Only after witnessing the death of Android 16 and the brutalization of his family and friends by Cell and the Cell Juniors, Gohan's inner monologue remarks that he can "feel it slipping," before launching into the transformation that eventually brings down Cell.

Similarly, Goku's desperate struggle to survive against Jiren is what allows him to shatter his "self-limiting shells," and activate the initial Ultra Instinct -Sign- form. Goku is eventually able to complete the Ultra Instinct form, but initially, it's his Spirit Bomb, which Jiren essentially turns into a black hole, that acts as a trigger for Goku to snap and ascend to his Ultra Instinct -Sign- form.

9 Ultra Instinct -Sign- Is Purely Defensive

Ultra Instinct may very well be Goku's ultimate form, but it's preceded by an unstable, far less capable form known as Ultra Instinct -Sign-. When Goku first succumbs to Ultra Instinct -Sign- at the brink of death by Jiren, he's able to match Jiren's ferocious attacks with swift dodging abilities.

However, it isn't until he's able to achieve the complete Ultra Instinct form that he begins experiencing the offensive benefits of his elevated form. The Ultra Instinct -Sign- form also differs from the final Ultra Instinct form aesthetically, with Goku sporting a slightly disheveled, dark silver shock of hair compared to Ultra Instinct's definitively white-haired characteristic.

8 Vegeta Is Unlikely To Ever Achieve Ultra Instinct

Perhaps Vegeta's primary motivator throughout Dragon Ball is his jealousy toward Goku's superior fighting abilities and power. Vegeta's own ascension through the Super Saiyan ranks generally trails Goku's, however, Ultra Instinct might be where the buck stops for poor old Vegeta.

Nevermind that Ultra Instinct is an elevated state even the gods of Dragon Ball Super have trouble achieving, it's Vegeta's very nature as a fighter that holds him back in this case. The angel Whis explains to Goku and Vegeta that reaching Ultra Instinct is extremely challenging and requires completely emptying the mind of thought and relying on pure impulse. Singling out Vegeta specifically, Whis advises, "You two are still thinking before you move, rather than just moving. I'm afraid this habit is especially strong with you, Vegeta". As it stands, Goku is the only known mortal with the ability to achieve Ultra Instinct. Vegeta likely needs work before he can match Kakarot.

7 Ultra Instinct's Japanese Name Was Hard To Translate Into English

The name Ultra Instinct may come off as a generic term without a ton of thought behind it, but the form's original Japanese name has a lot more going on. Migatte no Gokui can be interpreted a number of ways, although none of them directly translate to anything near "Ultra Instinct."

Breaking it down, migatte means selfishness colloquially, while gokui equates to the masterful, secret teachings of an art or skill. So, out of context, a Japanese speaker might assume the phrase has something to do with mastering selfishness. However, with proper context, the name for Ultra Instinct roughly translates to "mastery of the body moving independently." That doesn't exactly roll off the tongue, so Ultra Instinct was used in its place for the English version.

6 It's Unclear If Goku Can Ever Use It Again

Near the end of Dragon Ball Super, Goku explains to Vegeta that he is no longer able to reach the Ultra Instinct form, surmising that he mistakenly transformed after being pushed past his limits by Jiren. This is different from the way every other transformation occurs, in which the characters are able to quickly learn how to activate their improved forms at will.

RELATED: 10 Great Anime Featuring Strong Female Protagonists

Although, Ultra Instinct is very clearly a separate transformation from the Super Saiyan forms, so it's unsurprising that it follows different rules. Depending on what happens next for the Dragon Ball franchise, this could very well be the end of the Ultra Instinct form.

5 It Has Its Flaws

Sure, Ultra Instinct has Goku in what is by far his most powerful form, but it's far from perfect. As mentioned earlier, it isn't a form that Goku can switch into voluntarily, meaning it's only viable as a last-ditch effort in catastrophic situations. Even worse, Ultra Instinct simply isn't sustainable. Beyond a minute or two in that form, Goku's body begins to suffer the effects of centralizing all that power, resulting in painful shocks of dark ki and ultimately, the loss of consciousness.

Whis even mentions at one point that spending too much time in the Ultra Instinct form can inflict fatal damage on the fighter's body - not good at all when the whole world is depending on you to save them.

4 Master Roshi Might Be Able To Reach Ultra Instinct

Indeed, Goku is the only known mortal able to transform into the Ultra Instinct form, but it's hinted at in the manga that Master Roshi may be another who can harness its great power. To the astonishment of the spectating mortals and gods, Roshi is able to block and dodge a flurry of attacks from Jiren, before ultimately being defeated.

Even though he didn't win, Roshi gives Goku a masterclass in utilizing skill and dexterity over raw power, a lesson Goku seems to heed when he first achieves Ultra Instinct -Sign- and displays incredible speed and dodging abilities. This is far from confirmation that Master Roshi has mastered Ultra Instinct, but it's definitely peculiar that he manages to hold his own against someone he has no business fighting in the first place.

3 It Might Have Origins In Real-Life Philosophy

It's, ahem, unlikely any real-life human would ever possess the ability to destroy entire universes in a feat of supernatural power, but there might be something more to Ultra Instinct than Dragon Ball Super lets on. The legendary martial artist Bruce Lee has spoken about an opportunistic fighting technique that relies on instinct and reflexes to act without thinking beforehand. His words bear a striking resemblance to Goku's fighting style during his fight with Jiren while in his Ultra Instinct form. In the "Lost Interview" with Pierre Berton, Lee phrases it best: "When the opponent expands, I contract. When he contracts, I expand. And, when there is an opportunity, I do not hit - it hits all by itself."

Separate from Bruce Lee, the principles of the Ultra Instinct form appear to mimic the Mushin mental state practiced in Zao and Daoist meditation and martial arts. The technique seeks to unburden the performer from mental inhibitors such as anger and ego by displacing analysis with instinctual movement and intuition.

2 Ultra Instinct Is Featured In Dragon Ball Video Games

Ultra Instinct is used to great effect in Dragon Ball Super in Goku's fight against Jiren in the Tournament of Power. However, as it turns out, Dragon Ball Super isn't the only place fans can witness Goku using Ultra Instinct to punish his enemies with god-like strength. In the Japanese trading card arcade game Dragon Ball Heroes, Ultra Instinct -Sign- is featured as Goku's super move.

Elsewhere, in Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2, Ultra Instinct Goku is a playable character patched via a paid DLC pack Finally, Ultra Instinct -Sign- Goku appears in the free-to-play mobile game Dragon Ball Z Dokkan Battle.

1 Anyone Can Achieve Ultra Instinct

While the Super Saiyan form is obviously limited to Saiyans, Ultra Instinct is theoretically feasible to anyone - yes, even Yamcha. After all, Ultra Instinct isn't technically a transformation into a new form, but rather a technique or state of mind which requires incredible discipline and concentration. In fact, it doesn't appear that Ultra Instinct even requires any specific level of power, but rather the right mentality.

The fact that Ultra Instinct is limited to neither Saiyans nor immortals proves that within the laws of Dragon Ball Super's universe, there's nothing stopping Yamcha, Krillin, Chi-Chi, and Hercule from reaching Ultra Instinct through sheer will and desperation.

Perfected Ultra Instinct (の”の完成,Migatte no Goku'i no Kansei, "Ultra Instinct Perfected"),[3][4] often simply referred to as Ultra Instinct (の ””,Migatte no Goku'i "Kyoku"),[5][6] is an extremely powerful transformation that is obtained through the completion of Autonomous Ultra Instinct, far surpassing the Ultra Instinct Sign form.

Angels are always in this state,[7] though they can turn the ability on or off if they so choose.[8][9]

This form is essentially identical to the initial state of Ultra Instinct Sign, albeit with the user's hair becoming silver in color. The hairstyle is slightly wilder and more solid than normal, having no loose strands. The eyes take on a more stern, defined shape, sporting silver-colored irises, and visible pupils. Also, in the manga, the user generally has a focused but calm expression.

In the anime, the user gains a complex silver and blue aura consisting of rippling, fire-like energy, complete with sparkling particles of a magenta color.[10]

In the manga, the user initially gains the complex silver and blue aura consisting of rippling, fire-like energy without the sparking particles of the magenta color. After the user achieves a more sharpened control over the state, the aura becomes non-present.

Also, in the anime, the user's muscles remain virtually the same mass and definition. while initially in the manga, the user's musculature becomes slimmed down like Super Saiyan God. By the time Goku activates a more sharpened state during the Galactic Patrol Prisoner Saga in the manga, the user's musculature is similar to that in the anime.

Upon the user's first successful transformation into Perfected Ultra Instinct, a "shell" of black and bright white covers the body before crumbling away as the hair fades from glowing white to gray. A similar effect has been seen in Super Saiyan Blue. In the anime, the transformation's extreme energy rips away the user's clothing on their torso while in the manga, their clothing remains unaffected. In Toriyama's artwork and Super Dragon Ball Heroes (both the game and manga), the form possesses Goku's Super Saiyan God hair and eyes albeit silver.

In the anime, while dodging or evading, Goku's movements in this form leave afterimages. His voice also remains deeper and rougher like the previous state, though he still speaks his own voice.

In the manga, Moro also achieves this transformation through copying Merus' angel powers. In this form, Moro's fur in his legs and back turned white instead of silver, while his facial stripes also turned white.

Usage and Power

In this state, Goku's power skyrockets far above what it was previously, making him the strongest he has ever been in history,[5] ranking among the most powerful entities in the multiverse.[11] It is also stated to surpass the Gods of Destruction.[12] In promotional material for the anime Goku (in either Ultra Instinct Sign's third usage or in this complete state), it is recognized by even Beerus to be possibly superior to him in power.[13]

In the manga, after Perfected Super Saiyan Blue Vegeta's quick defeat at Beerus' hand, Whis notes that achieving this state would allow Vegeta to take on any foe, including Beerus. This form allows Goku to match full power Jiren, thanks to it exploiting openings in his guard - causing Jiren to refer to it as not being true strength like his own. Later, Merus comments that when Goku masters this ability, no enemy is able to overcome him in combat, making him essentially unbeatable. When fine-tuned enough, the state also naturally hardens the part of the body which is about to take a blow; this was displayed when Moro broke his hand trying to impale Goku in the chest.

While in the manga, it is said that one must have complete control of their emotions so that the balance of the Ultra Instinct is not disturbed, in the anime, apparently there is no such risk, as Goku was able to use anger to boost his power even more, but it is also possible that Goku utilized his rage without letting himself become consumed by his emotions.

After receiving Uub's divine power and retaking his Ultra Instinct state, Goku displayed the ability to create a massive avatar of himself made from energy; Goku then charged out of the avatar and destroyed Moro’s crystal, ending him once and for all.

All Angels are naturally in the Perfected Ultra Instinct state, as such, the form first appears when Whis goes to wake up Beerus due to the Super Saiyan God prophecy. He first reveals the existence of this state and its ability to Goku and Vegeta when training them, prior to Frieza's Revenge.

The form is noted to possess divine ki. In Dragon Ball Heroes, upon seeing Goku's Ultra Instinct Sign and Perfected Ultra Instinct forms, Hearts notes he possesses the "power of the gods".[14] The notion of Ultra Instinct's divine nature is further reinforced during Goku's battle with Moro, in which he required a massive amount of godly energy to maintain the form.

In the anime, the intensity of Perfected Ultra Instinct Goku's power was so great that his shirt was completely shredded when it activated. In addition to this form's vast levels of power, it retains its strengthening effect on Goku's Saiyan Power ability, allowing his speed, power, general efficiency, and ki to increase as he continues to fight an equally or even more powerful opponent. Its most notable trait is that it grants Goku complete mastery over Ultra Instinct, making all of his moves automatic and able to both defend and counterattack with ease, without being hindered by the thoughts that previously made Goku's use of Ultra Instinct imperfect, as Goku had let go of all of his doubts and live in the moment to fully understand Whis' teachings; thus allowing him to access the full potential of his fighting ability. Despite being a form that acts on neutral impulse, it can still channel his rage to amplify its power to staggering new levels, as shown when Goku's initial stalemate against the limit-breaking Jiren became a crushing assault that quickly pummeled Jiren into submission after Goku was infuriated at Jiren's shameless attack on the spectators. He also displayed such vast ki control that he could calmly repel and contain any energy assault thrown at him.

In the manga, Goku commonly uses telekinesis as part of his fighting style in this form, utilizing it similarly to his God Bind in order to restrict his enemy's movement.

Once attaining Perfected Ultra Instinct, Goku was able to completely negate Jiren's Overheat Magnetron, as he caught the attack in his hand, crushed it into a smaller orb, then calmly disintegrated it by just flicking his hand. He was also able to dispel Jiren's Infinity Rush with a simple wave of his hand. He was so fast that he was even able to dodge Jiren's punch and counterattack simultaneously in one flowing movement with such speed, it was impossible to see what Goku actually did. When Jiren angrily charged at him, Goku calmly dodged the attack and then bombarded him again with a rapid flurry of punches, before knocking him down from the pillar, leaving all the grand deities in the universe in awe of his might, with all the Gods of Destruction standing up and even Beerus praising and showing envy at Goku for his newfound power and completion of Ultra Instinct.

Upon facing a fully-powered Jiren, Goku was able to move so fast that not only did he leave a cut on Jiren's cheek, but also produced delayed shockwaves from the sheer force of his speed. During the battle, Goku calmly dominated Jiren, as he effortlessly blocked, dodged, and countered all of Jiren's attacks, along with being able to effortlessly blast through Jiren's Colossal Slash with his own Energy Blast, and swiftly pummeled him to the point of leaving the Pride Trooper visibly injured and tired.

When Jiren unlocked his Super Full Power and prepared to fight back, Goku was still able to fight on par against him in hand-to-hand combat. However, Goku became somewhat overwhelmed by Jiren's raw power as the battle progressed, as he was sent flying when Jiren used his energy, upon blocking Jiren's punch and getting injured by a Omegaheat Magnetron, which overpowered his Supreme Kamehameha. Despite this, Goku was able to quickly recover without being hindered at all by the damage he sustained and faced Jiren once again, but with even greater speed and power than before, as he continuously either evaded or blocked most of Jiren's assaults, and after a long standstill, eventually landed blows so powerful that he left Jiren temporarily unable to fight.

After deflecting Jiren's Power Impact when he attacked Goku's friends, Goku's rage increased the power of his Perfected Ultra Instinct form even further. From then on, Goku was able to decisively overpower Jiren, landing solid blows and effectively evading and countering all of Jiren's attacks, such as his multiple Power Impacts, Infinity Rushes, and rapid punches before finally blasting him away with a Supreme Kamehameha and leaving him weakened in a crater, causing the mighty Pride Trooper to admit defeat.

As Goku prepared to finish Jiren off, the great power of Ultra Instinct took a toll on Goku, causing his body to endure tremendous pain and revert him to his base form.

In the manga, Goku achieves this form after maintaining great calmness over his own heart and mind's emotions when Jiren starts using a lot of his power. In this state, Goku easily outmaneuvers and overwhelms the non-fully-powered Jiren; however, when Jiren powers up to his maximum, the two battle evenly, with Goku's Ultra Instinct form eventually wearing out and putting him at a disadvantage until Vegeta comes to assist him.

When Goku trains with Merus to obtain control over the form, Merus surmises that Goku initially obtained the form in an extreme crisis or a matter of life and death, and concludes the quickest way of achieving it is to replicate those conditions. Merus then goes on to explain that Ultra Instinct will activate when the user achieves self-control in the face of a jarring shock to their emotions.

During the climax of the final battle against Moro on Earth, Merus tells Goku that, thanks to the training he spent with the angel, he is one step closer to mastering the Perfected Ultra Instinct state. Once he is inspired by Merus' sacrifice and manages to gain full control of his emotions in the midst of the aftermath, Goku manages to activate the state at will to the point of being able to shake the entire planet with the perfected power achieved through his conscious domain of the transformation. He was then able to overpower Moro in such a way that his power had been praised by Beerus as having at last achieved the style of the gods. Even when a fully-healed Moro lunged at Goku to thrust his arm through him, Goku's Perfected Ultra Instinct was so honed that his body automatically grew sturdier as necessary - to the point where Moro broke his own hand on Goku's pectoral with the Saiyan not even budging an inch.

Upon copying Merus' abilities, Moro achieved the Perfected Ultra Instinct state himself, which even completely shattered his gem off his forehead. With this new power, Moro proved a mostly even match for Perfected Ultra Instinct Goku, even managing to land a blow on him, thanks to his magic. But after a well-placed dropkick to the back by the more experienced and trained Saiyan, the Angel power proved too much for Moro's untrained body and he quickly began to mutate.

On Beerus' Planet, Goku activates Perfected Ultra Instinct in order to spar with Whis; however, he is easily overcome by Whis' superior usage of the state.

While fighting Granolah, Goku is overpowered in his various forms, even while combining the principles of Ultra Instinct with Super Saiyan God and Super Saiyan Blue. Because of this, Goku activates Perfected Ultra Instinct, allowing him to overpower Granolah and resulting in him having no openings for the Cerealian to strike. Though he is initially holding his own, Goku's accuracy with Ultra Instinct drops during the fight, until he is once again open to attack from Granolah, causing him to drop back to his base form.

In the Dragon Ball Heroes manga, Goku took the form when Xeno Vegito was in trouble because of Super Saiyan 3Cumber and proceeded to take Xeno Vegito's place in fighting, though he and Cumber never finished their battle as the Prison Planet was destroyed, with the last seen moments of their clash being an evenly matched beam struggle.

In the Dragon Ball Heroes anime, Goku took the form when Xeno Goku and Xeno Vegeta were about to be mowed down by Cumber's Désastre Eraser. He nullified the attack and proceeded to batter down the ancient Saiyan, much to his counterpart's awe. After firing a Supreme Kamehameha that took Cumber out from the count, Goku reverts to his base form, emerging seemingly unscathed and fine from Perfected Ultra Instinct's limitations. A similar occurrence took place later on, Goku re-enters the form again when fighting against Kamioren in their Ultimate form and after firing a Kamehameha and following up with a punch that shattered the merged Machine Mutant to pieces, Goku reverts to his base form exhausted. Goku afterward seemed to believe that using Ultra Instinct he could have stood up to Hearts in his Ultimate Godslayer form, but seeing as he didn't know when he would be able to use it again, he opted to fuse with Vegeta instead.

Later, when it is revealed that Goku has still not mastered Perfected Ultra Instinct, alongside Vegeta having not mastered his new form, the two enter the mock Hyperbolic Time Chamber to master their powers respectively. They emerge, Goku in his Perfected Ultra Instinct state and Vegeta in his Controlled Berserk Super Saiyan Blue state to face against the Crimson-Masked Saiyan in his Super Saiyan Rosé 3 state. Perfected Ultra Instinct Goku has the upper hand against Crimson, until he drops from the form due to the forms time limit.

In spite of the form's incredible levels of power, it has its faults. This form has a drawback of costing high stamina, making each exertion very stressful. It is also noted by Whis and Belmod that this problem can be overcome with enough proper training, making it impractical for users after just obtaining it.

In the anime, similar to the reckless over-usage of Kaio-ken, upon first usage, the user can only sustain the form for a minute or so before their body breaks down from pushing so far beyond their natural limits. The time limit ending is shown with blood rupturing from the user's body, as well as dark-black ki with purple electrical shocks that will cause severe pain and eventually force them into unconsciousness. Whis also noted it could potentially kill the user.

In the manga, when used by one who has not trained enough to wield it, the form takes a toll on the user's body when being used to try and react to an extraordinarily powerful foe.

Both the anime and the manga's events of the Tournament of Power left Goku in a massively exhausted state and with barely enough energy to fight, though during the anime's version of the tournament's climax, Goku was able to muster the strength to turn Super Saiyan for the final charge.

Moreover, Goku apparently attained Perfected Ultra Instinct purely by accident, as the next time he discussed it with Vegeta, Goku replied that he is unable to tap into its power at will, meaning that the form can only appear if Goku is in extreme danger.

Using the Perfected Ultra Instinct requires proper control of one's emotions after a sudden emotional shock. Through training, Goku developed the ability to utilize the Ultra Instinct Sign at will. Merus points out that at that point, Goku was just one step away from achieving this and when he does, he will be able to access it whenever he wants, and thanks to having become stronger, he will be able to keep it stable. Goku now is able to access it with no drawbacks, following Merus' erasure.

Through Seven-Three’s copy ability, Moro had acquired Perfected Ultra Instinct via Merus. However, due to not undergoing the proper training, Moro’s body could not withstand the power, causing his body to mutate, thus not able to properly utilize the transformation. Even after having fused with the Earth, Merus' Ultra Instinct power combined with the large quantities of energy he was consuming overwhelmed Moro's mind, giving Goku the chance to eliminate the evil wizard.

Additionally, even once the form has been achieved it is still not at its full potential, as its precision can still be increased further, and as such an entity with higher Ultra Instinct precision will have the edge over a foe with a lesser amount.[7]

According to Whis, even once a mortal user of Perfected Ultra Instinct has mastered being able to enter the state, there is still a time limit which decreases their stamina, and they must further train to get past this impediment. Furthermore, during his battle with Granolah on the planet Cereal, although Goku initially held the edge over the Cerealian and had no openings for him to exploit, the accuracy of his Ultra Instinct decreased overtime, which resulted in Granolah managing to find an opening and strike him down with a pressure point strike. This time limit is also shown in the Dragon Ball Heroes anime, as though Goku mastered the ability to enter the form at will, he dropped from the form after only a short while into his fight with the Crimson-Masked Saiyan.

Video Game Appearances

Perfected Ultra Instinct Goku appears in Xenoverse 2 as part of the Extra Pack 2 DLC. His voice also has an echo added to it in this form. During the DLC 11 update, Perfected Ultra Instinct Goku gets a new variation of the Kamehameha called Divine Kamehameha as another skill set variation.

In Super Dragon Ball Heroes Universe Mission 5, Goku regained the state after having been beaten down by Super Saiyan 3 Cumber, and eventually defeated him with it.

Ultra Instinct appears as a transformation and the standard form for several Goku units in Dokkan Battle, first appearing as the transformed state of Transdimensional Instinct Goku (Ultra Instinct -Sign-), acting as a more powerful-yet-frailer "glass cannon" until his Extreme Z-Awakening eliminated this weakness. It is also featured in Surprising Even the Gods Goku (Ultra Instinct) and True Instinct Goku (Ultra Instinct) as the standard form.

Ultra Instinct Goku appears in FighterZ as part of its Season 3 DLC.[15]

In Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot, Whis will not normally use Ultra Instinct, and will instead briefly take on this form during training sessions in order to temporarily utilize it.

  • Perfected Ultra Instinct was designed by Akira Toriyama, but it underwent several changes in the anime and video game versions. The hair spikes are more sluggish; which is more similar to Ultra Instinct Sign while the original design closely resembles Super Saiyan God.[16]
  • The idea of silver hair may have come from the fact that Akira Toriyama originally wanted Super Saiyan Blue to have white hair. However, he decided against it because it would clash with "the next villain" (at the time this was stated, the Universe 6 Saga was ongoing).
  • In Dragon Ball Super: Broly, Goku appears to take on Perfected Ultra Instinct for a brief moment while swapping from Super Saiyan God into Super Saiyan Blue transformations while in combat against Broly.
    • However, the hairstyle is similar to the regular Super Saiyan and Super Saiyan Blue.
  • When first assuming the Perfected Ultra Instinct, Goku is covered in a bright white sheen, while his features are painted black and blue. In this state, Goku's hairstyle also appears similar to his Super Saiyan form.
  • Unlike the incomplete state, Goku loses his dual-voice when he grunts, yells or screams in the original Japanese version, while in the Funimation dub, he retains it. The former version even applies this in the Super Dragon Ball Heroes promotional anime.

The second time my ass was pressed in a different position, she was lying on her back, her penis stood like a bayonet, perfectly oiled, he entered my ass with effort. I had to control my body and descend evenly and smoothly. Of course I got pleasure, apparently my consciousness adjusts to the mixed organism.

Again, lubricated condoms were put in containers.

My name is Konstantin, or simply Kostya, not a very tall, skinny young man, rather unsightly for a boy in appearance with long hair the color. Of golden wheat. Hair in general is my pride, I have been growing it for four years, of course, I have changed a lot in myself in my entire life.
