Black temple lockout

Black temple lockout DEFAULT

Loot lockouts limit how frequently your character can obtain loot from a bosses. While primarily focused around Raid bosses, these limits also effect Mythic & Heroic dungeons, and World bosses.

To check what lockouts your character is currently saved to, press the key, select the Raid tab, and click on Raid Info in the upper right. This will display your current lockouts and the time left until they reset.

Throughout the years, World of Warcraft has used several different lockout systems that currently coexist in the game. When thinking about lockout limits, keep in mind the raid sizes (10 / 25-player) and difficulties (LFR, Normal, Heroic, Mythic).

Instance-based Lockouts

  • All members of your raid will share the same unique instance for the entire duration of the lockout. If your raid defeats any boss without you, you won't be able to engage that boss until the next reset.
  • Instance-based lockouts primarily affect the oldest raids, but affect all Mythic-difficulty Raids as well as Heroic and Mythic dungeons.
  • Example: Molten Core

Boss-based Lockouts

  • Your character can enter different raid instances, but cannot enter any instance where a boss they've already killed is still alive.
  • This is tracked across both raid size and raid difficulty.
    • Example: If you defeat Lord Marrowgar on 10-player, you cannot zone into a different player's instance where he is not defeated, whether that instance is 10-player or 25-player, Normal or Heroic.
  • You can switch between Normal or Heroic difficulty for individual bosses.
    • Note: The final boss of each raid can only be challenged on Heroic difficulty if all previous bosses have been defeated on Heroic difficulty in that week.
  • This was the primary lockout system for Wrath of the Lich King through Mists of Pandaria.
    • Example: Icecrown Citadel

Loot-based Lockouts

  • In these lockouts, you'll be able to challenge and defeat a boss any number of times, but you can only receive loot once per lockout reset.
  • This is tracked per individual difficulty.
    • If you defeat Shriekwing on Normal difficulty, you can kill him on Heroic difficulty and receive additional loot.
  • Example: World Bosses, any Looking for Raid-difficulty

Timewalking Lockouts

  • The Black Temple, Ulduar, and Firelands raids can be accessed in Timewalking difficulty during their respective events. Timewalking difficulty has a different lockout than the normal raid does, and both difficulties can be done in the same week.

  • Dungeons operate under an instance-based lockout.
  • Normal dungeons can be reset at any time when the party is outside of the instance, and will reset automatically after a certain amount of time has passed.
  • Heroic dungeons reset daily.
    • This lockout does not affect you when queuing for random Heroic dungeons in the Group Finder. It only prevents you from queueing for specific dungeons you've already completed.
  • Mythic dungeons reset weekly, but this does not affect Mythic Keystone dungeons.

Everything you need to know about Black Temple Timewalking

Burning Crusade Timewalking has returned, and with it comes your chance to raid Black Temple more or less as it was during Burning Crusade. The raid is available during the entire event and will require a premade group to complete, which means you won’t be able to do it in LFR but you can definitely do it in a PUG. Black Temple contains the same loot from the level 70 version but scaled up to 385 item level with the chance to Titanforge or Warforge.

Ready to get raiding? Here’s what you need to know.

Black Temple Timewalking basics

Finding (and joining) a Black Temple raid

There’s no dungeon finder or LFR to get into a Black Temple group. To get started for Timewalking raids, find or make a raid group for the instance. You can find groups under the Premade Groups tab of the group finder in the Legacy Raids section. Black Temple Timewalking is a flex raid and you can take between 10 and 30 people.

To enter the raid, the raid leader will go to Shattrath where Vormu is standing right next to the Timewalking vendor, Cupri. Vormu has a quest and a dialogue option to queue up for the raid. Make sure you get the quest from Vormu or have someone share it. It requires killing Illidan and will reward 500 Timewarped Badges.

Black Temple 101

The devs wanted the raid to be consistent with the original version but slightly more forgiving as it’s only around for a week at a time, so they tuned it similar to Normal mode raids and kept most of the original mechanics. If you raided level 70 Black Temple back in the day, the Timewalking raid should be very similar to the original version.

But if you hadn’t or have forgotten, you’ll want to look at the encounters before you zone in:

Once your group is in, you start in the sewers and head up toward the first boss where you’ll encounter High Warlord Naj’entus. After you defeat him, you make your way out and into the Illidari training courtyard. Supremus guards the actual entrance to the temple and you must kill him before entering the temple proper. When you make your way inside the temple, the Shade of Akama and Teron Gorefiend are waiting at opposite ends of the Sanctuary of Shadows. From then on you go to Gurtogg Bloodboil, who opens the way upstairs.

Toward the back is the Reliquary of Souls, where you fight the Essences of Suffering, Desire, and Anger. The door to the rest of the temple opens and now you start climbing the heights to the top. Mother Shahraz is waiting in another outdoor courtyard after going through the Den of Mortal Delights. After you defeat her, you head back inside to find the Illidari Council as the last line of defense before Illidan. Once they are dispatched, head up the stairs to find Illidan waiting for you at the summit. Are you prepared?

Raid rewards

Of course, half the fun of doing raids is getting that phat loot. Black temple Timewalking contains the same loot as its original incarnation, which is great for transmog or item collectors. All the pets from the level 70 Black Temple also drop in the Timewalking raid, which are all part of the meta achievement for K’ute.

If the RNG gods favor you, you can pick up these goodies:

Transmog highlights

There are many transmog items available from Black Temple, both the level 70 and Timewalking versions. The Timewalking raid contains all the items from the level 70 version as well as new items for Death Knights, Demon Hunters, and Monks.

  • Warglaives of Azzinoth transmog appearance: if you have the Feat of Strength for collecting the Legendary glaives on any character, when you kill Illidan you’ll get an achievement that awards your Demon Hunter the Warglaives transmog.
  • Black Temple Timewalking contains pieces from the original Tier 6 sets and you can get the chest, shoulders, and legs out of the raid (the helm and gloves are from Hyjal Summit). Check out the Tier 6 appearances: Druid, Hunter, Mage, Paladin, Priest, Rogue, Shaman, Warlock, Warrior.
  • New pieces for Death Knights, Demon Hunters, and Monks in place of Tier 6 that did not exist for them yet.
  • A white version of Priests’ tier 6 Absolution set
  • That famous leather helm: Cursed Vision of Sargeras
  • The iconic staff for Priests: Staff of Immaculate Recovery
  • And a shield that’s almost larger than you: Bulwark of Azzinoth

Happy raiding, everyone!

WoW Patch 7.2.5 Hotfixes: Black Temple Timewalking lockouts and Tomb of Sargeras bugs

Good news everybody! No, the slime is not flowing again, but Black Temple Timewalking lockouts are now fixed. When the first Timewalking raid came out on Tuesday, players quickly found out that the raid lockout was working like Mythic: players were locked to the instance ID rather than per boss. This meant that people could not join another fresh or in-progress group if they had already killed bosses. The lockout issue will be resolved with realm restarts in the morning.

Tomb of Sargeras is also seeing bugs dealt with. First up is the incredibly annoying Dresanoth bug, where the NPC for the world quest was not spawning correctly in the watery halls. What was happening, however, was that he was putting everyone in combat as they ran through on the way to Mistress Sassz’ine. No pre-pots, no eating, no rezzing. We had to get creative with deaths in order to get out of combat and our loot addon working at the end. Also fixed is another annoying bug in Mistress Sassz’ine’s room — the loot window would keep closing itself while trying to assign loot with Master Looter. Unfortunately it seems like the same loot window issue in the Sisters of the Moon room is still there.

Read on for the full list of changes.

I was on my rogue clearing black temple timewalking today. I had to leave the raid for a couple of hours and as you can see at the picture i killed every boss until the council fight! I dont know why but we tried with a group of people to que up for the last part of the raid (2 bosses left) but as you can see this door is locked and we cant continue! I dont know if its a bug but i would like some clarifications here!
Honestly i dont want to run the same place again until there for a second time it takes ages...

oops, what i wanted to say is that I had it too on my dh today. We looked if there was still thrash left or bosses respawned back, what i saw in another tread. And we even resetted the instance a couple of times and noting changed that door for openening.

I guess we need that thing which tirion used to open the gates at icecrown citadel in wotlk :s

This is 5 yrs old bug, if you logout or gay dced while in raid in BT u cant continue ur raid until next reset.. welcome in never end bug

Hey Docvirus,

Not sure what you've done to resolve this, but please try the following:

- Have your group exit the raid, and you reset the instance (or whoever is the group leader).
- Stay out of the raid for 30 minutes, that will force a soft reset to the instance.

If the above two things do not help, contact the in-game support from here.

Nothing of those options worked i guess will open a ticket for it! Thanks for the answer though!

It wouldn't surprise me if Timewalking Black Temple used a lockout for the entirety of the Event, to only give you one shot at a full clear, per TBC Timewalking Event... per character.

Our group had to stop after attempting council last night, but it got too late and people had to go. When we tried to pick up where we left off the doors are closed after Mother Shahraz and nothing we do will let us through that door.

When I google this seems to have been an issue with both TW and regular version of BT for some time. Sucks :frowning:

How to Skip Bosses to Illidan in Black Temple with Demon Hunter (World of Warcraft Legion Guide)

Raid timers are the technique implemented by Blizzard to prevent members of large guilds from visiting high-end instances over and over to repeatedly farmbosses in a short period of time. Despite the name, a similar system also affects heroic dungeons.

Players re-entering an instance will find that bosses killed in previous visits to the same instance stay killed until the timer resets. The other implication is that the players associated with the instance have a time limit in which to complete their activities before the instance is reset. This time can be extended (from patch 3.2.0) with the Instance Lock Extension feature.

Raid timers (or Raid IDs) are the system used to save you to a raidinstance. To see which raids and boss encounters you are currently saved to, you can type "/raidinfo".

Lockout Types

Loot-based Lockout

Used for: All Raid Finder raids, Siege of OrgrimmarNormal/Heroic, Warlords raids Normal/Heroic.

  • You can kill a boss as many times per week as you like, but only loot it once per difficulty.
  • Anyone can join anyone’s instance.
  • Bosses are never locked to you, and you can always go back and kill them later even if you’ve skipped them by joining a group that had progressed further.
  • Raid sizes can be anywhere from 10 to 30 players, and difficulty automatically scales to match.

Flexible Boss-based Lockout

Used for: Normal difficulty raids from Wrath of the Lich King through Throne of Thunder.

  • You can only kill a boss once per week, and you may not enter an instance where a boss is alive that you have already defeated that week.
  • You can move from group to group during a week as long as you’re joining instances that don’t have bosses alive you’ve already killed.
  • If you enter an instance that is more progressed than your own and get saved to it, you will be locked to all prior bosses.
  • You can move between 10 and 25 raid size, given these constraints.

Strict Instance-based Lockout

Used for: All classic raids (Molten Core through Sunwell), Heroic difficulty of Wrath of the Lich King raids through Throne of Thunder, and all Mythic difficulty raids.

  • Progress is tied to a fixed instance ID. Once tied to an instance ID, you may not enter any other versions of that raid of that difficulty until your raid lock resets.
  • If other players complete that instance while you are absent, the instance will be empty for you as well, because progress is tied to the instance, and not your character.
  • You may not switch between 10-player and 25-player raid size once locked to one size or the other (does not apply to Mythic which is 20-player only).

Instance timers

Since patch 1.9.0, instances are reset according to a fixed calendar. This was decided by Blizzard to be fairest to most and replaces the previous system of resetting raid instances based on the absence from the instance of the raid members.

Unless a raid has been extended, the following is a list of when each raid is reset:

Note: Raid resets may vary. Check the in-game calendar for resets on your specific server and region. On European servers all raids are reset on Wednesday instead of Tuesday.

Classic raids

Burning Crusade raids

Wrath of the Lich King raids

Cataclysm raids

All Cataclysm raids reset at the same time: Tuesdays at 11:59 AM

Heroic Dungeons

Heroicdungeons are reset every morning at 9:00AM (7:00AM EU).

Patch changes

  • WoW Icon update.pngPatch 1.9.0(2006-01-03):
  • The raid-lockout system has undergone a significant change. The new system will have all instances reset at a certain server time, regardless of when you were actually saved to the instance. The reset schedule is as follows:
    • Molten Core: Every 7 Days, resetting during weekly maintenance.
    • Blackwing Lair: Every 7 Days, resetting during weekly maintenance
    • Onyxia: Every 5 Days
    • Zul'Gurub: Every 3 Days
    • Temple of Ahn'Qiraj (40-man): Every 7 Days, resetting during weekly maintenance
    • Ruins of Ahn'Qiraj (20-man): Every 3 Days
  • All resets will occur during off-hours, when the least amount of raids are active.
  • WoW Icon update.pngPatch 1.3.0(2005-03-07):
    • "Raid lockout" is fixed. If the leader of your raid group is saved in a different instance than you would otherwise go to, you are added to your leader's instance.
    • Added /raidinfo command showing remaining time on saved raid instances. Also shows an ID to compare with other players (if you have the same saved ID as them, you will go into the same instance)
    • Added a chat window message when you are first saved to an instance.

  • WoW Icon update.pngHotfix (2020-05-05):Fixed an issue that caused players to immediately accept a Zul'Gurub instance lockout if they were in a party with a player who defeated Gahz'ranka.
