Areas Wag Animal Rescue Serves

WAG Animal Rescue has expanded and currently assists animals throughout the entire Southeast area of Michigan.

Wag Animal Rescue's Adoption Process

Cats: $75

Kittens: $60 plus refundable $25 spay / neuter deposit

Dogs: $200

Small Breed Dogs ( less than 25 pounds ): $250

Puppies: $200 plus refundable $50 spay / neuter deposit

Small Breed Puppies : $250 plus refundable $75 spay / neuter deposit

Fees may occasionally be different than published due to circumstances surrounding individual animals.

Every canine and feline over the age of 6 months is spayed / neutered prior to adoption, and all animals ready for adoption are current on vaccinations, have tested negative on heartworm (dogs) and feline leukemia / FIV (feline AIDS) (cats), and have been dewormed. For animals less than 6 months of age, state law requires that the adopter will sign a contract that he / she will get the animal spayed or neutered by the time it reaches 6 months old. WAG holds a deposit that is refunded when proof of spay / neuter is provided.

Adoption fees provide some recuperation of costs associated with providing in-home and necessary veterinary care while the animal is in our program. Oftentimes the standard adoption fee is less than what we've in incurred in costs. The benefit of adopting from an organization that provides in-home foster care is that the animal's behavior has been evaluated by their care providers in a natural living environment, rather than oftentimes unpleasant surroundings of a shelter. WAG foster care providers care for the animals as if they are their own, and learn to know the animal's likes and dislikes, ability to co-exist with other animals, ability to tolerate children, and so forth.

An application must be filled out and approved before we will make special arrangements to meet a cat/kitten.
A volunteer will review your application and contact you if you are approved or if further clarification is required. We will make every attempt to contact approved applicants within 5 business days of application submission (M-F), but this will depend on the number of applications received.

If you do not answer all questions then your application may not be processed.

WAG Animal Rescue adopts to homes that are best fits for our animals' needs, and not on a first-come, first-served basis.

We are an all-volunteer organization, and regret that we do not have the resources to contact applicants that are not approved. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

About Wag Animal Rescue

For the last 25 years, WAG has helped find new homes for thousands of homeless animals. WAG has expanded and currently assists animals throughout the entire Southeast area of Michigan.

Our mission is to further the cause of animals and educate the public on the importance of spaying and neutering. Our members believe in the importance of life, human and animal alike.

Our Goals

To find permanent, loving homes for adoptable animals, whether they are unclaimed strays, or relinquished by their owners; To assist in the education of the public about the care needed by companion animals and the benefits to humans of sharing their life with a companion animal; To help educate the public about the benefits (both to animal and the public) of spaying and neutering companion animals.

Come Meet Wag Animal Rescue's Pets

Many of our adoptable pets be at the Livonia PetSmart on Saturdays from 11-3. We are there every Saturday. Come up and meet these cuties. The Livonia PetSmart is located at South East corner Middlebelt and I-96 at 13150 Middlebelt Rd Livonia, MI 48150. It is located in the back of the Meijer and Costco Parking lot. Our pets are in the back right hand side of the store past the grooming and vet clinic.

OUR ADOPTION EVENTS ARE VERY BUSY so please keep that in mind if you intend to come. You should expect to spend some time there if you are sincerely interested in one of our animals (since we have limited manpower and many visitors to screen).

WE CANNOT GUARANTEE THAT THE RESCUE YOU ARE INTERESTED IN WILL BE AT THE ADOPTION EVENT. If you are interested in a particular animal please email so we can let you know if the animal will be there. Our email address is [email protected]

We ask that you DO NOT contact PetSmart about our animals. They are kind enough to provide space for our adoption events, but are not involved with our rescue work.

Support Adoption and Rescue. Why go to a dog breeder, cat breeder or pet store to buy a dog or buy a cat when you can adopt?

Why Should You Adopt?

Dog adoption and cat adoption saves lives. Adopt a dog or adopt a cat and you'll have a friend for life.

What is the difference between adopting a dog, adopting a cat, adopting a kitten or adopting a puppy versus getting dogs for sale, cats for sale, puppies for sale or kittens for sale from a dog breeder or a cat breeder?

When someone is breeding puppies or breeding kittens, they are creating new dogs and cats who need homes. Some people are interested in a very specific breed of dog, cat, puppy or kitten and they think the only way to find that specific breed is to buy a dog for sale or buy a cat for sale from a puppy breeder or a kitten breeder. Yet animal shelters are filled with dogs and cats who must find homes.

So rather than buying a dog or puppy for sale from a dog breeder or buying a cat or kitten for sale from a cat breeder, we encourage people to adopt a dog, adopt a cat, adopt a puppy or adopt a kitten at their local animal shelter, SPCA, humane society or pet rescue group.

Stolen cat returned to Livonia pet store

Big Guy, a four-month-old kitten, was found after being missing for about 36 hours from a Livonia pet store.

Thankfully, this crime story has a purr-fect ending.

Wyandotte-based WAG Animal Rescue reported this past week someone had entered the PetSmart at 13150 Middlebelt sometime Wednesday evening and took a fourth-month-old kitten named Big Guy.

As of Friday morning, WAG Animal Rescue President Vickie Taylor said someone had returned the cat to the store.

"I am thrilled to death," the Willis resident said. "I'm happy she returned it. I don't know who took it. I'm so thrilled the cat's back."

The cat, which appears to be a Maine Coon and tabby mix, was found missing Thursday morning. The organization put out the cat's picture across Facebook, asking for any information leading to the discovery of the cat.

The woman who returned the cat Friday morning to the store said she found it in a backyard, Taylor said.

Taylor said she made sure the cat was the correct one before picking him up and taking him home for some care, which he was. She said he's acting perfectly normal about the situation.

"I've already brought him home from PetSmart," she said. "I love this cat to death. He's acting like nothing happened."

I really enjoy going to PetSmart. Came in early today to get grooming items for my new rottweiler puppy. Was able to get helpful service and tips from customer service rep Brooke about my new rottie as Brooke is also a rottie owner. PetSmart for another win! Thank you Brooke for taking the time.

The cashier was friendly and I was able to browse and check prices on things. They have a decent selection of products. I generally like this store and it was easy to find what I was looking for. It's nice that they have a pet hospital as well just in case of emergency.
