What a blessing!

What a blessing you and your podcast are to me, Lisa! I catch your messages on YouTube, the Lakewood church sites (phone app, Roku channel), and sometimes your website, but there’s something special about this podcast that I love. Maybe it’s the short but powerful episodes? Maybe it’s the “on-the-go” aspect of the podcast? Maybe it’s because I can easily take you with me in the car and we can roadtrip (or just run errands) together? 😜 Anyway, just wanted to leave you a review and some words of encouragement. Blessings on you and your family today! Looking forward to more podcast episodes (hopefully soon;)💕

Lisa Osteen Comes speaks of tragedies and miracles

From a birth defect to an unwanted divorce and then a bomb explosion, Lisa Osteen Comes has experienced the tragedies of life and the miracles.

Comes, sponsored by the Women of Destiny, will speak at 7 p.m. April 26 at Destiny Worship Center.

"I plan to share my story and some powerful truths that I have learned over the years," Comes told The Log.

No stranger to the adversities of life, Comes was injured at birth and developed a condition similar to cerebral palsy. Doctors told her parents she might not walk and could face an early death but God had other plans for this young girl. As her father and her mother prayed for her, God miraculously healed her before her first birthday.

Comes has gone through several life-changing moments, and one was her unwanted divorce as a young adult.

"I was full of shame and felt disqualified from ministry," she said. "However, in the healing process, God not only restored my life He called me to preach. So in the worst trial of my
life, God didn't change His mind about me; instead, He used it to catapult me into my destiny."

Several years later, in 1990, God once again spared Comes' life, and she experienced another miracle.

While opening mail, she unknowingly unwrapped a package meant for her father that contained a bomb. The force was so great her office was riddled with nails and shrapnel, but she was miraculously protected and had minor injuries.

Comes has been married to Kevin for 22 years and they have twin girls who are 14 years old and an 11-year-old son.

Through all these miracles, Comes has learned "that we always have hope in Jesus and what we cannot do in the natural, God can do for us."

A graduate of Oral Roberts University, Comes dedicated her life to full time ministry in 1983 and began to work for her father, the late pastor John Osteen, at Lakewood Church in Houston. She also traveled the world teaching God's Word, writing books and is still at Lakewood with her brother, pastor Joel Osteen.

"I was director of ministries for years, but in 1999, I became an associate pastor and speak in the Wednesday evening services," she said.

Through all of her challenges and experiences, Comes has become known as a respected ministry leader and Bible teacher. Her passion for God's Word and love for people radiate in her practical and insightful messages.

"I speak a lot on overcoming adversity and fulfilling your God-given assignments."

For women, Comes has a special message.

"Dont ever give up because God has so much more for you and to do in you and through you. You have greatness inside of you!"

Instead, they can be rich periods of joy, growth, and preparation for the plans and promotion that God has in store for you.

Personal struggles paved her road to success

Lisa Osteen Comes is the associate pastor of Lakewood Church in Houston under her brother, well-known televangelist Joel Osteen.

Don't let failure distract you on your way to destiny.

That's the message shared by Lisa Osteen Comes, who shared her story and advice during Wave Church's Devoted Conference for women that wrapped up March 1. She was one of three guest speakers who spoke to more than 2,000.

Comes is the associate pastor of Lakewood Church in Houston under well-known televangelist Joel Osteen, her brother, who is pastor of the rapidly growing megachurch.

"Destiny is not a complicated subject," she said. "Take it one day at a time."

Comes' message to women comes from her own struggles that she overcame in a positive way.

She survived a muscular birth defect, and was severely injured in 1990 when a mail bomb filled with nails and shrapnel exploded in her lap after she opened a package sent to her father, who founded Lakewood Church in 1959.

She spent nearly two weeks in a hospital recovering from wounds to her legs and abdomen, but somehow, the bulk of the shrapnel missed her and pierced her desk and wall.

At the age of 22, her marriage of two years ended in divorce.

But God gave her hope, optimism, and blessed her life, she said.

She remarried 24 years ago, and has three adopted children, now ages 12 to 15.

In 2012, she released her book "You Are Made for More."

Life is filled with challenges, Comes told her audience from the stage filled with stacks of diapers, representing more than 6,000 disposables that attendees donated to the Greater Hampton Roads Diaper Bank.

Her challenge of the day, Comes said with a smile, was the ability to speak despite a cold. With a raspy voice, she shared her message about how to avoid distractions to destiny. Her final prayer included the words, "Set me free from anything that is holding me back."

Wave Church co-pastor Sharon Kelly said the annual conference's attendance has substantially grown since it began in 2001. The goal, she said, is to empower women to make a difference in the world.

"There is something beautiful and powerful in the heart of every woman," Kelly said.

Pembroke resident Thesha Bove, who owns a construction business with her husband and has a 1-year-old, said it was important that she made time to attend the gathering and share her faith. She compared the experience to using an oxygen mask during an airplane emergency. "If you don't put it on yourself, you can't help others."

Beth Green, co-pastor of The Living Room Church in Martinsburg, W.Va., trekked five hours to the conference with 99 ladies. The event was life-changing.

"We've been strengthened and encouraged and inspired to be better moms, wives and friends."
