Above & Beyond English Setter Rescue: (1) Saving English setters from confinement, abusive, dangerous, or cruel situations. (2) Committed to “life” saving decisions for English setters at risk of euthanasia regardless of age or condition. (3) Passionate people bound by a common mission to save, rehabilitate, and re-home English setters in need. (4) To educate the public about the English setter breed, care and training.

Above & Beyond English Setter Rescue (A&BESR) is a 501(c) (3) non-profit charitable organization committed to saving English Setters. Since 2004, our efforts enabled over 1,500 homeless setters to find their way into loving forever homes. Our adopted dogs reside in 49 of our 50 states, DC, and Canada. There are A&B foster homes in every geographic region of the country.

The setters rescued by A&B are often found in shelters, as strays, no longer wanted because they do not hunt, or turned in by families who are no longer able to care for their setter. Once in rescue, our foster homes work with each dog to determine temperament, personality, and best type of home situation for their foster’s needs. All dogs receive basic vetting: spay/neuter, vaccines, and parasite testing /treatment.  Many rescued setters have significant medical needs which require advanced medical care for heartworm disease, tumors, untreated breaks or fractures, etc.  A&BESR provides for all medical care.  Once restored to health, our setters are available for adoption.

Over the years, our intake, fostering, and adoption policies have evolved as the rescue has grown. One guiding principle has never changed “We are deeply committed to saving English setters.”

Rescue means different things to different people. When A&BESR discovers there is/are English setter(s) within hours of being killed we do our best to commit immediately, regardless of whether a foster home is available. We will temporarily board a setter to save his or her life. Many setters in these urgent or life and death situations are young adults or moms with pups too young to wean. Without an immediate commitment many die a cruel and painful death.

The volunteers of A&BESR are passionate about and believe in what we do. A&BESR invites you to join us in continuing our mission to save English setters in need.

English Setter

The English Setter is an elegant and athletic dog with the ability to run tirelessly at a good pace. Their trot is ground covering and effortless, with the head held proudly and a lively tail. The coat is flat, with feathering on the ears, underside, backs of legs, underside of thighs, and tail. Their markings are distinctive, consisting of flecks of color, sometimes with patches, on a white background. The Laveracks tend to be larger, carry more feathering, often have deeper muzzle, and usually hold their tails nearly level when on point. The Llewellins tend to be smaller, faster, with less coat and often larger patches of color. They tend to hold their tails straight up when on point.

Gordon Setter Rescue Program

Now on Facebook!

The Gordon Setter Club of America’s Rescue program is a network of regional Gordon Setter rescue programs from across the United States. These nonprofit programs are run independently by volunteers from each regional Gordon Setter club. Availability of dogs varies from region to region. The ages of the dogs tend to range from 8 months to 10 years, and dogs are spayed or neutered as a condition of placement.

The dogs available for adoption through rescue come from several different sources. Some we find in animal shelters. Some are turned over to our programs because of a change in family circumstances such as a divorce or job transfer, or because the owners were not prepared for the energy level of a young Gordon. Occasionally, when a true rescue dog is not available, we also assist GSCA breeders in placing adult dogs whose homes did not work out, because most offer a lifetime return policy. The rescue dogs and potential owners are carefully evaluated to insure the best possible placement for each dog.

If you’re interested in adopting a rescued Gordon, look through our listing of Gordons available for adoption or check out regional listing of Rescue Contacts and contact the rescue program closest to you.

Donations are always gratefully accepted to help Gordons in need. Funds can be designated to one of the following funds:

National Rescue Fund – Assists with transportation/relocation costs, emergency vet care in areas with no GSCA affiliated club, and grants to our local clubs/area committees to help with their rescue efforts.

Rosie Medical Emergency Fund – provides grants to our affiliated clubs/area committees to help pay for medical expenses that go above and beyond the normal medical care incurred by rescue.

Volunteers are what makes our rescue work. Without them there is no rescue. We have adopters and supporters from coast to coast and happily share in the idea of personal connection, and communal pride, in helping setters in need.

I noticed Mark's surveillance. If I hadnt arranged it, then, Im afraid, its just that neither you nor I would get rid of it. The result of the torture would have been two mutilated corpses. You fool, I whispered, kissing. I have forgiven you long ago.
