CPU:
65W AC Adapter
125V Power Cord
Hello,
I have this good notebook and I want to upgrade it.
I am wondering can I add 4GB RAM since the processor is 64 bit architecture?
I recently bought RAM chip of 4GB DDR3 PC3L-12800S clocked at 1600MHz, tested it and failed to boot up.
I checked the BIOS syslog says OFF-FLASH-OFF. The attached is the description of the message I found from the manual.
The question is if I put 4GB RAM DDR3 10600S - 1333MHz will it work?
It is currently with chip of 2GB DDR3 RAM 1333MHz and is now running 32bit OS, but I will change it to 64 bit.
I know that even the OS is 32 bit if I add 4GB of RAM it should decrease it to 3GB.
Is it compatibility issue with the frequency of the RAM chip, i.e. it should be explicitly 1333MHz otherwise it will not work?

That device is 6 years old and runs an Atom processor, you need to buy the same module as what you have for it to work, and that assumes you have a single 2GB module at the moment and there are 2 slots available.
If there is only 1 slot you need the same spec ram but in 4GB module

As per Crucial's site, this device's max RAM is 2GBAceOfSpades wrote:

Indeed, in the CPU vendor website is described 2GB max.
http://ark.intel.com/products/50154/Intel-Atom-Processor-N550-1M-Cache-1_50-GHz
Well, I've checked that, but I see some people upgraded it somehow:

Also there is article written on Bulgarian language about testing of this Dell notebook model with 4GB of RAM:
>>>
http://www.retropcmania.com/2014/10/dell-latitude-2120-best-netbook-ever.html
I just tried with 4GB PC3-10600s-9-11-F3 DDR3-1333 and same result.
The guy from the refurbished shop where I bought the RAM checked(in some website) and he also confirmed that it is updradable to 4GB of RAM.
His advice after several different attempts with 4GB chips was to try upgrade of the BIOS.
My 2GB chip RAM is the same vendor(hynix) with the same frequency. The only difference is that instead of 9-11-F3 is 9-11-B2.
There was no 4GB of RAM chip with 9-11-B2 to test it.
Not sure if that matters, but I've found this:
>>>
https://superuser.com/questions/1027557/sk-hynix-memory-module-pc3-10600s-9-11-f3-what-does-11-f3-me...
My BIOS version is A02, release 1/20/2013 :
http://www.dell.com/support/home/bg/en/bgbsdt1/Drivers/DriversDetails?driverId=84XF2
It shouldn't be because of BIOS update.

If the CPU itself states 2GB is the maximum, 2GB is the maximum - there must be something different with those who claim 4GB, maybe their CPU is N550 v2 or something.

Even the lates version(N570) is described as 2GB max RAM:

Is it possible those who claims to upgrade to 4GB do it with different processor?
Or they are just fake?
I asked the author of the article and I am waiting for response.

The only Atoms to support 4GB ram are as follows
D410, D510, D525, D435.
The 550 you said you have, does not support more than 2GB, period.
It is entirely possible some of the writes ups have listed the wrong CPU model or the wrong ram, either way if your CPU can only register 2GB I can't see how logically those others would have 4GB for that specific CPU.
What are you hoping to gain by adding an additional 2GB to a 6 year old device?

Well, since I've maded few mistakes regarding the values of the mentioned numbers and wanted to correct them quickly, or in another case I just misspelled some of the words and I am pedantic my post to be properly arranged - yes I will correct it.Rod-IT wrote:

If there was faster procedure to edit the edited without waiting the FUBAR amount of time to be admin checked all the content of the message,
then to be processed, and free up for editing, then maybe you wouldn't wait so long to see it.
I am writing in this topic while am working, so maybe I am not so preciese, and maybe I don't have the time to check it and preview it, and again maybe, if the editing was more easy you wouldn't complain about my editing.
Moreover, the last message I edited was via mobile phone, and was because only one digit with significant meaning.
The use of the mobile browser screwed up the whole syntax - yes, I editted again when I came back to the PC.
Nothing has been erased/removed/deleted etc.
I only add or correct content!

I have pretty decent Fujitsu laptop, but I'd like something a little bit smaller, a little bit lighter.
This is compact notebook.
Usually I have at least close to 30 tabs open and I am not really sure if this computer would be able to take that kind of abuse and I just wanted more adequate RAM for what I need.
I got to be careful in future and always to check explicitly the CPU and only trust on the vendor website.

Dell Memory Upgrade - 4GB - 1Rx16 DDR4 SODIMM 2666MHz
Random Access Memory (RAM) is a type of hardware that your computer uses to store information. Adding memory is one of the most cost-effective ways to improve your computer's performance.
Dell™ Branded memory offered in the Memory Selector has gone through rigorous quality assurance and quality control testing to ensure it will work with your specific Dell System so it is fully compatible and supported by Dell. Getting unqualified or generic products from other vendors can cause downtime that can seriously cost your business and put your entire system at risk.
Memory offered now may differ in speed from the original system memory but has been qualified to work in the system. When mixed, the memory will perform at the lowest speed populated or the highest speed allowed by the system.
