Harbor freight has 800 Watt one, it's louder but most of the time under $100

That's not an inverter though. This is technically a lot better.

The Harbor Freight genny was a 2 stroke last time I looked.

The $80 HF 2-stroke model is not loud. You'd think it's like a leaf blower, chainsaw or weed eater - not so, it has a rather gentle "purr" instead.

Good reviews on amazon

Just ordered one. Amazon reviews were OK. The fact it's a 4-cycle, inverter and the sale price made the sale. Hopefully the unit I receive isn't a piece of c***. If the power goes out, I need something to run the tankless water heater and keep the electronics charged.

Are you serious ??

Walk into a home depot, lowes or harbor freight.
Take a look at any 2-stroke device...a chain saw, weed-eater, generator, etc.

Now take you right hand and smack yourself in the face....hard enough hurt.

I know you can get 2 stokes in California if they are under 50cc.

I remember a few years ago (5-10) when Harbor Freight had a note with all their 2 stroke generators on their website that stated they were not available in California. I guess they changed something, or they are under 50cc.

Well, if it won't run a tankless water heater, at least I'll have lights and something to charge the cell phones.

I think you're correct even though I haven't read the specs on the tankless. I'm pretty sure there isn't much draw. All it has to do is monitor the flow and fire up the burners. I also have solar chargers for cell phones but they take a long time. Having the internet up and running is a nice plus.

- Porta Source
IG800W 800 Watt Inverter Generator with 40cc Viper® Engine Mfg# 20175 INDUSTRY-FIRST CIRCULATING FUEL PUMP Other generators of similar size lose power at elevated operating temperatures because the fuel boils in the fuel supply line. The Porta Source IG800W uses a circulating fuel pump which constantly moves fuel through the fuel system and back to the fuel tank eliminating air bubbles in the fuel supply. This keeps the unit at rated power even in extremely hot conditions. FUEL EFFICIENT At 14 hours per gallon the fuel efficient IG800W runs for hours without needing a refill. There is no need to wake up in the middle of the night to refuel this generator while trickle charging your boat batteries or providing auxiliary power for low wattage night lights. The economy mode feature automatically adjusts fuel consumption and noise to the electrical load applied. Needing less fuel also means needing less space. In many cases an extra fuel can isn’t needed which saves room when packing equipment for day trips. LIGHTWEIGHT AND TOUGH At a dry unit weight of 18.5 pounds this generator is 25 percent lighter than similar wattage generators. The small, lightweight IG800W is perfect for taking with you to those remote places where larger power sources would be cumbersome. A convenient carrying handle and impact resistant shell made from talc filled polypropylene stand up to back-country abuse. QUIET OPERATION At 58 (decibels) there’s no need to set your inverter generator long distances from your activity. The Porta Source IG800W is designed to be quiet with a cast iron exhaust header, noise-cancelling air intake, multi-chambered muffler, noise-suppressing housing and vibration-dampening feet. This unit is a perfect companion for activities where walls are thin or neighbors are in close proximity. COMPACT Keep the clutter off of your garage floor by storing this compact unit on a shelf or in a storage cabinet. Compact construction also has benefits during transport and use. This generator will fit easily in the trunk of a vehicle or on an ATV. It is well-suited for storing in your boat and charging the trolling motor batteries between tournaments. PURE SINE WAVE WITH OVERLOAD PROTECTION The IG800W Inverter Generator is gentle on your sensitive electronic devices. It eliminates the choppy, surging power that a less sophisticated generator will deliver by producing a “pure sine wave”. Other electrical safety feature include an instant reset circuit breaker which provides immediate power after an overload condition instead of waiting for a thermal reset switch to cool off. Both of these features allow you to charge your cell phone, your electronic tablet, or even your laptop with confidence knowing that the vital internal components are protected. Keep hands, feet, clothing, etc., away from drive belts, fans and other moving parts. Never remove any fan guard or shield while the unit is operating. Do not operate the machine without proper guards or other safety protective devices in place. See manufacturer s instructions for proper operation and installation of accessories. Only use accessories approved by the manufacturer. Do not operate or work on this product when fatigued or under the influence of alcohol, drugs or other medication which can cause drowsiness or affect your ability to operate this machine safely. Do NOT operate generator in rain or snow. If the equipment should start to vibrate abnormally, stop the engine (motor). Turn the engine key switch to the STOP position. Check immediately for cause. Vibration is generally a warning of trouble. If the noise or vibrations of the machine increase, stop immediately and perform an inspection. Never leave the machine unattended when the engine is running. Turn the engine key switch to the STOP position. Regularly inspect the machine. Make sure parts are not damaged or loose. Certain parts of the generator get extremely hot during operation. Avoid severe burns, keep clear of the generator until it has cooled. Do not alter the construction of the generator or change controls which might create an unsafe operating condition. Keep all screws, nuts and bolts tight. Do not transport the machine from one place to another with the engine running. Never use the generator or any of its parts as a step. The generator must be earth grounded in accordance with all relevant electrical codes and standards before operating. A 10 gauge copper wire should be used to connect the ground terminal of the generator to a grounding rod. A wire too thin may not provide sufficient electrical current carrying capacity to be an adequate ground path. Use a ground fault circuit interrupter in any damp or highly conductive area (such as metal decking or steel work). Do not use worn, bare, frayed or otherwise damaged electrical cord sets with the generator. In case of accident caused by electric shock, immediately shut down the source of electrical power. If this is not possible, attempt to free the victim from the live conductor. AVOID direct contact with the victim. Use a non-conducting implement, such as a rope or board, to free the victim from the live conductor. If the victim is unconscious, apply first aid and get immediate medical help. 4 Check for parts online at or call M-F 8-5

Clean up spilled fuel and allow to evaporate and dry after wiping and before starting. Allow fuel fumes/vapors to escape from the area before starting engine. Test the fuel cap for proper installation before starting and using engine. Always run the engine with fuel cap properly installed on the engine. Never smoke while refilling or draining engine fuel tank. Do not store engine with fuel in fuel tank indoors. Fuel and fuel vapors are highly explosive. Never pour fuel from engine fuel tank. Never siphon fuel by mouth to drain fuel tank. Always have an adult fill the fuel tank and never allow children to fill the engine. Never allow an adult or anyone under the influence of drugs or alcohol to fill engine. When storing gasoline or equipment with fuel in the tank, store away from furnaces, stoves, water heaters or other appliances that have a pilot light or other ignition source because they can ignite gasoline vapors. Burns and Fires The muffler, muffler guard and other parts of the engine become extremely hot during the operation of the engine. These parts remain extremely hot after the engine has stopped. Prevention of Burns and Fires Never remove the muffler guard from the engine. Never touch the muffler guard because it is extremely hot and will cause severe burns. Never touch parts of the engine that become hot after operation. Always keep materials and debris away from muffler guard and other hot parts of the engine to avoid fires. 6 Check for parts online at or call M-F 8-5
