  • MyTresses Gold Label Ocean Body 14” 16” 18”
  • Gel
  • Comb
  • Brush
  • Bobby pins
  • Weaving needle and thread
  • Optional: braiding hair

Step 1

Split your hair into four sections. Begin to braid one section down. Then, braid the next section down and feed-in the first braid into the second braid. Use braiding hair as needed.

When you are complete you should have two main braids to secure the weaving hair onto.

Step 2

Begin to wrap the weaving hair around the end of the braid. Secure the end of the weft to the braid with a few stitches.

Step 3

Next begin to wrap the rest of the weaving hair around the braid, moving upwards and securing with stitches as you go.

Step 4

Once you’ve made your way to the nape of the neck, secure the end of the weft. Take enough hair from the bottom of the ponytail and wrap around the wefts to hide them. Use bobby pins to secure.

Step 5

Repeat on the other side.

Ta-dah! Now you’re ready to enjoy the heat, and look good doing it!

Clients are always coming into my shop asking for feed-in braids (a protective style in which you feed hair extensions into each braid, starting near the roots of your hair), so I wanted to create a fresh ponytail that incorporated them here.

To recreate this badass braided look at home, using Ampro Pro Styl Shine 'n Jam Conditioning Gel as you braid to smooth down the hair, start at your hairline (in line with the inside of your right eyebrow). Separate a half-inch section of hair, moving your comb in a wavy line, so you end up with a part that isn't straight. Begin to cornrow that section toward the crown of your head.

Repeat the process three more times: The second braid should be next to braid you just created (leave a one-inch space between the two), and then cornrow a half-inch section of hair on the left and right sides of your head in line with your temples.

Make sure each braid is angled up toward the crown of your head, rather than braiding each straight back.

Next, create a feed-in braid at the center of your hairline between the two cornrows you just braided, adding in extensions as you go for length. Do the same on the right side of your head between the cornrow braid you made along your hairline and temple. Then, create another feed-in braid, using a one-inch-thick section of hair, below the cornrow at your temple.

Now, move to the back of your head (if you're braiding your hair at home, you might need some assistance for this part). Make a slightly wavy part down the back right side of your head and begin to cornrow a half-inch section, curving the braid to the far right when you reach the nape of your neck. Then, start feeding in extensions as you braid up your hairline and around your ear, keeping the braid unfinished when you reach your chin.

At the curved part of the braid you just created at the nape of your neck, start a feed-in braid that goes up toward the crown of your head. Remember the two initial cornrows you made at the beginning along the top of your hairline? Between the two of them, create another feed-in braid with an inch-wide section of hair. Repeat the same process between the two cornrows on the left side of your head, directing the braid toward the crown of your head.

With the section of hair that falls between the two feed-in braids on the left side of your head, create a cornrow that will eventually become a part of the braid that wraps around your ear.

Next, moving to the left side of the back of your head, braid your hair down the center, curve it to the far left at the nape of your neck, and add in extensions for length as you wrap the braid around your ear (incorporating the end of the tiny cornrow you created in the previous step. Returning back to the larger, inch-wide braid you created but left unfinished on the left side, start adding in extensions so it reaches beyond the crown of your head.

At the curved part of the braid at the nape of your next on the left side, create another feed-in braid that goes toward the crown of your head. Repeating the step, add another feed-in braid on the opposite side of your head.

All of your hair should now be braided at this point. Next, add a few beads onto the braids that fall in front of your ears, and wrap a gold cord around them for an added detail.

Gather the the braids at the crown of your head and secure them into a ponytail with an elastic band. Dip the ends in hot water to seal them and make the extensions more flexible. Wrap one of the braids around the base of the ponytail, and then apply mousse to your head, wrap it, and hit it with heat from a hair dryer for a smooth finish.
