Tutoring and Modern Languages

Tutoring 940 352

We offer tutoring in a variety of subjects, and even assistance with homework.

Regular one-on-one tutoring is recommended for optimal results. Frequency depends on the level of need. However tutoring on an “as-needed” basis is available, schedule permitting.

For Elementary Students:

Homework can cause stress at home and interfere with valuable family time in the evenings and weekends. At New Voice, tutors provide a structured approach in a learning conducive environment. In addition to supporting students with their work, tutors ensure that the student understands the material, provide extra practice and pre-teach upcoming materials, so that your evening is free to be enjoyed knowing that your child is ready for the day ahead.

For Jr./Sr. High Students:

Homework and projects at the high school level are meant to solidify material covered in class, but often students find themselves lost or overwhelmed with the task. Students can book appointments on an as-needed basis to get started on a task, get supported during a task or have their work proofread or edited by a qualified teacher.

Our qualified French teachers support language learners of Core and Immersion French at any grade level.

Students have fun as they take control of their language acquisition with a Language Portfolio. They expand their fluency in both spoken and written French while they explore topics of their choice.

We also provide tutoring and education for other modern languages.

We can help you become a better student by determining your learning style and teaching you how to take advantage of your strengths. We help you develop skills such as:

  • time management
  • note taking
  • listening
  • organization
  • memorization
  • test taking strategies

We support your child in achieving the Literacy Learning Outcomes at each grade level using our Personalized Tutoring Plan.  Qualified teachers assess individual needs and utilize appropriate and fun literary selections and exercises to challenge the student and expand their literacy abilities.

Wilson Reading System

We offer Wilson Reading System™ for students in grades 2- 12 and adults who require intensive instruction due to a language-based disability. The Wilson Reading System™ is a highly-structured remedial program that directly teaches the framework of language to students who have been unable to learn with other teaching strategies, or who may require multisensory language instruction. Each lesson builds on the one before and requires students to use all of their senses to progress through the 12 step program from sounds to syllables, words to sentences, and paragraphs to stories.

Our qualified teachers support Mathematics Learning Outcomes of ALL grades. They specialize in developing and applying strategies to enhance understanding and learning across the grade levels. They are in sync with current Nova Scotia curriculum and can build and elaborate on the way Math is being taught in public schools today.

If your child excels at Math our teachers can challenge him or her with customized enrichment materials to foster his or her love of this discipline.

On our team of qualified teachers we have experts in the fields of Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Oceanography.

The teachers are very excited to share their passion for these fascinating disciplines with their students and reveal how these sciences affect our everyday lives.

We are happy to have on board qualified instructors in the fields of History, Economics, Political Science, Sociology and Geography.  What’s more is that we are passionate about sharing our knowledge with our students.

Four Steps to Success

1. Initial Assessment: We get to know the student, his/her needs as well as his/her strengths

2. Personal Tutoring Plan: We consult with parents and classroom teachers to create a Personalized Tutoring Plan.

The Personal Tutoring Plan is an evolving document that is fine tuned as the student progresses.  This approach builds not only confidence but also a strong foundation and motivation for current materials as well as future challenges.

3. Strong Foundations: We use the student’s strengths to fill learning gaps.

4. Practice: We practice the concepts using examples in areas of the student’s interest.
